Australia's Feathered Menace - The Australian Magpie | Bird Tales

Australian magpies and their calls are a staple sound of the Australian outdoors. But unfortunately, magpies are best known for one thing - swooping season.

During the months of August to October magpie attacks are accepted as a normal part of suburban life. Australian magpies could be considered - especially for those in the suburbs - as the most serious feathered menace in the world.

This is episode 3 of an ongoing series called Bird Tales, so please sit back and enjoy this 3 minute 18 second video about the Australian magpie.

Cheers!

We love our Magpies, we have had many family's of Maggie's over the years, they pop in every day and never ever swoop anyone in our area, Mom and dad magpie bring in there young until the next breeding season then they chase the young away and start over again, sometimes 3 new birds sometimes only 1, fantastic birds

Love the maggies
They are more likely to attack bike riders than walkers
More urgency if the threat is fast moving

magpies are most well known as being the mascot of a football club that a lot of people either love or hate.

I love your vid's. I, as a retired cyclist can back the claim for their hatred of cyclists. But by far the worst I have encountered, is the Butcher Bird,

It's Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds All Over.

I don't think it's fair adding to the hate of our wildlife by using such inflammatory lines like "people-attacking magpies.... most serious feathered menace in the indiscriminate aggression". It's really over the top language for the basic instinct of protecting their young, and they very very rarely hurt anyone. There are people in this country that speed up to run over birds, shoot them with arrows, poison them etc
Please be more thoughtful in your approach ✌🏼

If only we can train them to be selective, like anti-Semites 🤔
