Garp literally stayed as close as possible to ace as he can just because he was waiting…. He was waiting that if ace asked for his help, he would help him without hesitating even one bit

There has to be something deeper to garp's story that we don't understand his son being the leader of the revolutionary army and Luffy being his only grandson (by blood) literally standing there watching Ace be murdered in front of him... Oda has to have something in a bag explaining all this

I can’t shake the feeling that Garp is gonna give his life to protect Luffy at some point from Akainu. This is gonna throw Luffy into Gear 5 and absolutely destroy Akainu, even worse than Whitebeard did.

I wont blame garp, he always loved his grandsons but as a hero of the navy he has his limits to interfere, thats why when luffy went to save ace on the platform he was putting an act of blocking him, and let him save ace. Later he was so mad akainu was alive only because sengoku pushed down garp.
