The 2024 Kia EV9, a new midsize electric SUV, has earned the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). To achieve this award, the EV9 demonstrated high performance in several critical safety tests, including small overlap front, original moderate overlap front, and updated side tests. Additionally, the vehicle's pedestrian front crash prevention system and headlights received commendable ratings. Notably, Kia made adjustments to the headlights in the Land and GT-Line trims to reduce glare, ensuring that all versions built after January 2024 met the required safety standards.

The EV9's standard front crash prevention system earned a good rating in pedestrian safety tests, and both available headlight options are now rated as good. However, models built before February 2024 did not qualify due to previous poor headlight ratings. While the EV9 did not secure the higher-tier TOP SAFETY PICK+ award due to not undergoing the updated moderate overlap front test, its robust safety features and performance in other evaluations still make it a top contender in the midsize SUV market.
