Commodores - Say Yeah [The Commodores Anthology]

Показать описание
SONG: Say Yeah
ARTIST: Commodores
CD/ALBUM TITLE: The Commodores Anthology
Anyone who loves music and isn’t already familiar with this iconic soul & funk group might be from another planet. I owe it to my mom for introducing me to the music of the Commodores. She has been my music historian for most of the music that originated from the 70s and the 80s. I remember when I first heard the song “Brick House” and walked around all the time singing [in the best tone that I could] the lyrics: “She’s a brick…house…she’s mighty mighty…just letting it all hang out.” Ha! I couldn’t get those lyrics out of my mind. Next came hearing the most beautiful lyrics and music of the song “This Is Your Life”…and it was then that I wanted to know more about the group who singer/songwriter Lionel Richie started out his career with.
I’m not going to go into a lot of details about the Commodores…their story on how they got started as a band is as well-known today as it was back when they originated in 1968 while attending Tuskegee Institute in 1968. Members during that period included Lionel Richie; Milan Williams; William King; Thomas McClary; Ronald LaPread; and Walter “Clyde” Orange. The Commodores produced a massive discography of successful music recordings that spanned from 1970 to the 1980s, having produced over 20 albums and selling over 75 million records. Between 1976 and 1981, they had 8 top ten songs that hit the Billboard charts and received several Grammy Award nominations. In 1982, Lionel Richie would leave the group to seek a solo career and, over time, several of the founding members also left and were replaced by new members. In 1986, the Commodores won their first Grammy for the song “Nightshift”. The new group line-up consist of Walter "Clyde" Orange, James Dean "J.D." Nicholas, and William "WAK" King, along with their five-piece band, known as the "Mean Machine". The group continues to perform under the name the Commodores, playing at various music venues and festivals around the world.
