Older Buzz LIED To Us In Lightyear (The Truth REVEALED)!

Many fans were shocked when it was revealed that Zurg was actually just an older version of Buzz in the movie Lightyear. Even Buzz himself was taken aback. It was quite the set up for Zurg and his origin story, one that was quite different from anything we had received from Pixar in the past. But crazy enough, this might not be the whole story. In fact, there’s actually a few hidden details in the film that suggest that the older version of Buzz was in fact, NOT the real Zurg. Well, at least not at first. Yup. You heard that right. Today we are going to be discussing a theory that surrounds the possibility that Buzz was not really Zurg, but actually an imposter who STOLE the real Zurg’s army and spacesuit!

The after credit scene did show Zurg coming back online. So maybe the older Buzz died, but the real Zurg was still there and took back control

The main thing that upset me about Zurg’s big twist in Lightyear was the fact that the trailers all seemed to paint Zurg as we expected him to be. An evil and malignant being that truly embodies the evil emperor moniker. When the actual movie released though he’s just a scary looking guy who in all reality would cause no harm except when absolutely necessary for his plan to undo his woopsie from the past.

First thing i thought when the old buzz was telling his story is "ok this isnt zurg, because old buzz found everything already made so the real zurg is still out there" so i agree with this theory.

Head canon here but hear me out. Lightyear was the movie the movie that inspired the buzz lightyear toy in toy story 1, well in toy story 2 its been a year or 2 since then. So its been time for a Lightyear 2 film, hence the belt accessory for buzz and the Zerg we know. So my head canon is the Zerg we know is from "Lightyear 2".

If the original Zurg comes back to get revenge, he maybe will mistake the good Buzz for the older Buzz and try to kill him. Sounds pretty interesting, don’t you think?

The fact Old Buzz says it was all "borrowed" means he stole everything from someone. The robots saying 'Bu-Zurg' is odd because he said they couldn't pronounce Buzz but they can say Zurg? 🤔
If Old Buzz escaped & was detained, why did Buzz get saved by Izzy?
The Old Buzz also didn't know or at least care to know that Alisha had a life with a family til he tried to get Buzz on his side. He would know that Alisha got married & pregnant if he was actually Buzz.
Very confusing considering the fact that Old Buzz exists but only wants help to further his plans that wouldn't work without the crystal... the other members are very random unlike Izzy, being tied to Alisha

I myself really enjoyed the movie Lightyear. That post credit scene also gave me chills. Maybe older Buzz died and the suit was just coming online because it was activated by the real Emperor Zurg deep in the galaxy somewhere. I hope that one day we do get a second light year movie even though it under performed, because I really would love to see those characters come back and maybe see XR, Mira Nova, and Booster again.

Just an FYI: The Buzz lightyear of Star Command tv show is NON-CANONICAL. Pixar has renounced it, denounced it, ridiculed it and has claimed several times that it is NOT cannon. You can’t use anything from that show to base a theory.

The real zurg is one reason the lightyear seaqul must happen and It feels essential to me that Pixar has to make it. When the zurg we saw was actually another buzz lightyear I just did not see that coming at all so we gotta see the real bad guy soon no doubt and fans would beg Pixar for this

The theory of future buzz fighting and stealing a zerg suit it would also fit the reason for why future sox was severely damaged

Once you introduce time travel you can pretty much explain away anything, or just leave it to the imagination and you’re in the clear. There is still one HUGE question that I havent seen many theories on…..
HOW IS ZURG BUZZ’S FATHER??? It’s part of the toy story cannon, it was programmed into Zurg’s fictional toy “I am your father” and his actual real-life toy too….
My theory is that Zurg’s true form is something we havent seen. “Old” Buzz stole his ship and the real Zurg is looking for it. This same Zurg is a time traveler (this could help explain the “abandoned” ship) and through his time travels he fathered Buzz, or at least in one of the realities he visited he fathered Buzz. We know time travel exists in this universe, so why would the humans (who have already been using hyperspeed for years without problems somehow) be the only ones to have it?

I've never watched it yet but I do agree that an older Buzz Lightyear being Zurg is a bit far fetched. An origin story of Zurg that would fit in the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command timeline would be awesome.
