So, today I will be telling you all about the different meanings of the words Metaverse, I will also be taking you on a brief history of the word and delving into whether the idea of it truly is dead! As Tech Bros are rushing in to say that Ai Art is the "new hot thing" and Artists and Individuals who do drawings, animations or 3D Modelers are now "Obsolete" I appreciate how you highlight "Creators" as now more than ever, they are insanely important to the shape of the Metaverse. And life in general.
Because if anything, Art needs actual humans to exist, not souless machines.

People who say the Metaverse is dead aren't even VR users, because a real VR user would know that the Metaverse is not something that is even here, it's a promise of a future where technology and research can allow such an ambitious idea to happen.

It's not difficult to explain, The Metaverse has never needed or relied on VR. Snow crash which you mention explained that only the elite accessed the metaverse through VR, the rest used public terminals, computer screens. Bit like Secondlife as you mention, which is a persistent world of user created content or VRChat, both VR and 2D. We won't get a true Metaverse until the different platforms let people interconnect like the Internet.

Fantastic Video!! I remember the beginning of what we now know as the World Wide Web (Internet) and how companies like AOL and Compuserve or MSN all tried to take control. In the end, we got a something that worked for everyone and owned by no one company, I'm hopeful that the same happens to the VR worlds in the future.. Bring on Ready Player One!!

when disgussing "the metaverse", second life is criminally overlooked. even though it's the ultimate long term case study, and over all just an incredibly interresting and unique platform.
granted, it's all a bit janky, the UI is convoluted, and it has a steep learning curve. but no other platform comes closer to being "the" metaverse to this day. rather than isolated instances of maps, it's one interconnected world. you can build in world and customize your avatar to the n-th degree, and sell your creations in world, as well as on the marketplace website. fair monetization and an in world economy are hard baked into it from the start.

The thing is, people "feel" the Metaverse is dead, but the reality is, the Metaverse is still in incubation and has not even been born yet. Just isolated hints of it are emerging and have been for decades. It is very much early days and there is a lot of work to be done as what even makes a good Metaverse, let alone how to seamlessly connect them, is years away from being figured out. In the meantime, corporations, and indies like me are building their own Metaverses and some will rise to the top and some will die on the vine. Personally, I am Imagineering a Metaverse Theme Park and I have no idea if this is what people want, but I sure love going on detailed dark rides with friends and family as it is surprisingly magical. All the hate for the Metaverse really comes down to disappointment as the vision of the Metaverse is so attractive, but the current execution is so utterly disappointing for most. Just needs time to mature as the Metaverse is here to stay, and will only grow over the decades.
