Here's the thing. It's not that Poe steals the show.

It's that Kazuda can drop the incompetent mechanic act. He's actually a pretty competent pilot and okay enough combatant. But when he has to play dumb at the station, he's... Well, you just have to stomach him.

But throw him in his actual element, get him flying, he's great.

I really want to like Star Wars: Resistance, but my main problem is that it's a show called "Star Wars: Resistance" but it's *barely* about the resistance. I want a show about the resistance resisting the First Order, not some guy bumbling around a station occasionally racing people.

If you compare Resistance to Rebels, you have to remember it's supposed to be a children's show that will grow with its audience. If Kaz hasn't shown any character growth by the latter half of season 2, then there's a problem.

I just can’t get past the comedy it’s like everyone on the show is Jar Jar

Kaz is goofy and clumsy and doesn't always learn from his mistakes, sure, but the first episode explains that he used to be heavily supported by his senator father, even when he became a Republic pilot, so of course he's not going to learn to walk on his own feet immediately. The episode where he used his own lucky trophy to save the alien who harassed him earlier pretty much shows that despite all these character flaws, his heart is in the right place.

I think Kaz really grew in the season finale, yeah he was still incompetent but he's no longer the pampered rich kid who had everything handed to him, he's learning. I love how he's the voice of reason for Poe, Poe is still the reckless fly boy and it almost costs Kaz his life, in the end Kaz has to step up and save Poe and his own skin later. By the time of The Last Jedi Poe is wiing to sacrifice an entire bombing fleet, Major Vonreg is definitely a mirror of Poe too, not just a bland pilot, but also letting his pride dictate his course of action, especially when it comes to destroying the enemy.

The animation is a bit jarring but I still enjoyed it

It may be a generational difference as I absolutely hate these types of main characters, (same reason I couldn't watch Rebels) but over the years I've just had to accept that younger audiences have a fascination with them. While there have been many great uses of the immature archetype, they used to also come matched with the "redeeming factor." You don't love characters because of their flaws but in spite of them. I feel that's been lost at some point.

Characters change at different paces. I like the series so far, it’s so much more detailed with a wider cast of characters and grander scope of movement than what they did with Rebels. I also enjoy the more organic rate at which the story threads advance; that said, it would play better at 2 episodes a week. Kaz is a great example of how some people struggle in social situations; however, the loudest and most critical who are brimming with annoyance or hate have much more to learn than even Kaz does. When Kaz annoys me, it shows that I myself need to learn and grow as well, even at my age.

The thing that baffles me is that TCW and even Rebels still felt enjoyable as a young adult. Resistance just feels like an incredibly dumbed down kids show whenever Poe isn't the centerpiece.

I feel Resistance is made by some extremely talented people who are coming up with really good and interesting ideas but at every step they stop and say, "we need to dumb this down for kids." If this show allowed itself to be as good as it could be it would be the new darling of the star wars fandom.

I felt the same with a lot of rebels season 1. It was solid, but I had a lot of trouble liking several characters, especially Ezra who seemed sort of silly, and non-serious.

Solid analysis! I strongly agree with you; when Poe's there it's great . . . when just Kaz is carrying the plot, I do find him too clumsy, too annoying. I do hope he matures soon.

I loved the show because of the first order. It showed what business they really meant

I would've liked some Po and Finn as main protagonist and show their progression as leaders of the resistance

I wish this series was taken in a different direction. I havent seen it yet, but I hoped that it would feature Rey. I want to like Rey as much as Anakin, as both are characters that were not well received from their debut films. The Clone Wars did wonders for Anakin and solidified him as a profoundly complex and strong character. I want Rey to have a complimentary series like The Clone Wars to turn the opinions of her detractors. Resistance doesn't seem to do that though, unfortunately.

3:45 let's be honest. We all know why the Resistance sent Kaz to the Colossus: to get rid of him. It was likely a low-risk, low-priority thing that had a tiny bit to do with piloting, so it's *technically* what Kaz asked to do. It keeps him out of the way, and if they get some useful intel from it, that's just a bonus.

I have been a huge fan of TCW/Rebels and I think Dave Filoni absolutely deserves all the respect for what he has done on both Rebels and TCW. After watching 4 episodes of Resistance, my neurotransmitters stoped working and I have become resistant. Boring, unimaginative, poorly written and acted show, a big letdown for no reason. And please, don't come back with excuses. The number one excuse I am tired of hearing; "This is a kid show for kids." The most common excuse we hear from certain types of people. And we've heard this many times. I am so sick and tired of hearing excuses.
