I think the fifty or so years following the Civil War were some of the best years of my life. At first it didn't start so great. Reconstruction and all that. Mending broken relationships and hurt feelings was really difficult. Some things were said that couldn't be forgiven, on both sides. It was really messy. Afterwards, though, there was a vacuum... a wealth vacuum.

It was New York, like it always was, pushing the trends. This time, though, the up-and-coming California had something to say about that. Ever afterwards, since she grew a spine, she's been using it to beat us over the head, haha. Anyway. Since New York's whole "monopoly" adventure was really paying dividends, I wanted to try and join him by getting into the car business. But there was only one problem--New York controlled who got the American car patent. And he denied it to me.

So I went to Dad. I told him everything that was happening. He didn't notice, of course, because how could he? He was busy with foreign affairs and making sure his house didn't fall apart. And he didn't like this monopoly idea, either. So he tore them down. I started to rise. My cars maybe weren't the best quality, but they were really cheap to buy and cheap and easy to repair. And so their popularity skyrocketed. The Tin Lizzy was really where it really took off. Almost everyone in the house had one.

The cars were starting to not sell before the war, but I guess that's a story for another day.
