2019 Macbook Pro 13-Inch Review: Apple's best all-around laptop

Apple's laptop lineup has been a mess for the past year, with the Macbook, Macbook Air, and 13 inch Macbook Pro all priced similarly and with similar capabilities. Recently, Apple not only dropped the plain Macbook, it also refreshed it's 13" Macbook Pro. Now sporting a superior processor, touch bar, and touch ID on the base model, the 13" Pro should now be the default option for anyone looking for a smaller Apple laptop.

Ya sure, the new Macbook Air only costs 1.099$. But Iif you would like to buy a Macbook Air, you should probably invest 200$ more and buy a Macbook pro instead with much better CPU/GPU, better display and touch bar. But then you should probably invest 200$ more and go for 256gb of storage. But just maybe you should invest 200$ more and get 16gb of ram for future proof. Oh snap, that's 1.699$

With how thin these pro models get. I see no point in getting the air.
No matter how you look at it, unless you just need the cheapest portable macOS device, there's no reason to buy the air.

Dear Reviewer, thank you for making the review about the product and not about you. Sincerely, your average consumer

I personally really love the TouchBar. I really don’t understand people’s hatred of it. I find it useful, even more so than the function keys. It also contextually brings up features and buttons that are helpful and usually buried under a menu bar somewhere. In my experience, people can always find something to complain about.

Compared to other YouTubers, I like how you're direct. Macbooks have been a great disappointment since 2016.

2 things
Storage
Keyboard problems
Other than that, it's very well designed.

Currently I have the MacBook Air 11'' from mid-2012. Honestly, the quality of the laptop is amazing. I have been using it for 8 years already and the only disadvantages are my battery that needs to be replaced and that my storage is super full, even when factory resetting my laptop: it can not store much more. However, it still works perfectly fine as if it was new, if the battery was fixed it would definitely work as (apart from the storage) a new MacBook. Now I would like to switch to a MacBook Pro 13'' 2019, I want to use Adobe Photoshop and I would like to edit my travel videos, but my concern here is that I am not sure how good the storage is. Will I experience the same problem, do you suggest another laptop or do you think this MacBook Pro will definitely work out for me?

I am a Graphic Designer . My 2011 Macbook Pro was nearly indestructible, suffering only one hardware failure in 2018. I retired and recycled it. I then bought a 2019 Macbook Pro, Intel I-9 processor, 32GB RAM and over $4K. Within that year I had my business put entirely on hold, suffering three keyboard trackpad failures in the last four months. It is currently out for repair now for the third time under the Keyboard Service Program for MacBook, MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro... (Yes, they're so bad they actually have a replacement program) with the end result being, after FOUR FAILURES WITHIN ONE YEAR they will replace it with a new MacBook Pro. So what's the big deal? One more repair and I'm home free, right? I would be getting a new one? Right? Wrong... The issue with that is the ones currently on the shelves right now (and I would be due) have the EXACT SAME COMPONENTS... A Butterfly Keyboard (Google that, you won't like what you see.) trackpad, speakers and battery (and as they are now) all GLUED to the replacement "top case" forming a single part that has an out of warranty price tag of $1000. (That is the quote I got from an Apple Certified Reseller/Repair shop, in person last Saturday.) They simply cannot just replace individual components they must replace the entire "topcase" When any one component fails. (They can't even replace just the battery.) So again whats' the big deal? Okay maybe for someone who lives within walking distance of an authorized repair center there's nothing... wrong with that.. and you are okay spending more than a thousand dollars per year on your computer.... I don't and I am not okay that sort of expense. If you're like me, be prepared to experience what I have so far... In the past four months I've had "23 telephone calls, totaling better than 6 hours", needlessly driven 120 miles total to ship it off three times for repair, a string of emails as long as my arm... 100 "I'm Sorry's" (More if you count the ones in writing) and I am still not done with the third repair. It happened to me, it could happen to you.... There is nothing Pro about a MacBook Pro. Buyer Beware.

Friendly question: how do you manage storage with a 128gb in the long run?

Despite true tone being on at work on my MBP 2017, it doesn't affect my heavy use of professional Photoshop in the slightest from original result, since the effect is so minor, yet so comforting. For me, turning on true tone is definitely better than turning it off, and my heavy use of professional Photoshop for work isn't affected in the slightest, which is great!

Only 2 ports? I've just bought a used one and it has 2 on the left, and 2 on the right with a headphone jack?

PRO vs AIR - - - - - - - PRO WINS
I just upgraded from a 2011 mac book pro (which is still working-gave it to my mom)
I trust the reliability in the pro way more than the air.
unless you one to switch out a 1, 000+ laptop within 3-4 years, reliability is the most important.

Both are quick - but in 4-8 years which will keep its speed the most = Mac book pro
The air is lighter but Not by much - Air=2.75 - - Pro=3.02
You're already spending a lot on the laptop. Either you have a lot of money and can afford both or your already out of your price range with either laptop.
I doubt there are that many people where an extra $200 will ruin you if you're already dropping $1, 000. Your either buying it outright or putting it on credit for both laptops. Even if $200 might make you struggle a bit more its almost always worth it (especially with the 2019 lineup)

Air has only 2 hours more of battery life more than the pro. When are you not gonna have access to a charging port within 10 hours? and in those rare-rare occasions, you can't get to one in 10 hours, I doubt 2 hours will make a difference. (I haven't charged mine in 3 days and I've only been using it for mail-youtube-Netflix and Hulu)

not enough of a difference to sacrifice the 4 core processors

Only people who should really care about battery life is video editors and the alike - - but they also require the quicker computer.
The only downside for some might be the touch bar ( this is personal preference)
But I personally don't mind it.
It has more uses than faults. Ya sometimes it requires a bit of extra work to turn up and down the brightness and volume but Im not so lazy that id dies from having to tap it twice. It does, however, make video editing and normal stuff easier (just gotta get used to it)

You can still fully access the function keys as well. Just search up videos about using and setting up the bar.

As for the argument of fan noise - - BOTH are extremely quite quiet, trust me. These fans are amazing compared to my 2011. Both are very close in loudness- one being only slightly louder AND only when running major applications like video editing (WHICH WILL USUALLY NEED THE PRO.
Any application that would make the fan louder would work better on the pro anyways.

The only reason to not get it is the keyboard - - but that's on the whole line up anyways-- than its not the case of which one rather than how long till they take the butterfly out of all the lineups

I'll be looking to upgrade my 2012 MacBook Pro to this machine soon. Will probably wait to at least black Friday/Cyber Monday to purchase to see if there are any deals on it.
