"You Can Leave Your Hat On" is a song written by Randy Newman and appearing on his 1972 album Sail Away.
Joe Cocker recorded "You Can Leave Your Hat On" for his 1986 album Cocker. Released as a single, Cocker's version peaked at No. 35 on Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks, and it was featured in the 1986 Adrian Lyne film 9ยฝ Weeks during the striptease scene. It was also a popular single in Australia (where the film was immensely popular), reaching Number 23.

A music video was released which features footage of the striptease scene from 9ยฝ Weeks and scenes with Cocker and his band performing the song. In some countries, the song itself is considered a striptease anthem, and still being used by strippers.

While not super high charting (#13 in Switzerland and #23 in Australia being it's best results), this song has gone on to almost cult status as one of Cocker's best. Interestingly, the movie 9ยฝ Weeks had all sorts of issues being made in 1984 but not released until 1986 with mixed reviews. However, its soundtrack sold well and the film itself became a huge success internationally in its unedited version, particularly in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, making $100 million worldwide for an outlay of $17 million dollars. PLEASE like, comment, share - Cheers Austech

Man, this is so hilariously true! I didn't remember it was because of the movie. Now I understand why me and my male friends always made fun of this song when imagining a woman taking off her clothes - oooohhhh 5th grade who never leaves the man even in old age. LOL. Thanks and cheers!
