It’s not placebo, more weight around the edges increases what is called the “Moment of Inertia” in engineer-speak. Basically higher inertia to resist the paddle spinning in your hand when hitting it off-dead-center. Therefore more energy is transferred into the ball, rather than into spinning the paddle. Therefore more speed and larger “sweet spot”.

In Ben John’s video on how he sets up his paddle, he specifically says adding lead tape along the bottom towards the throat will not increase the power on drives.

It’s hilarious how jealous tennis players are of this game. Look in the comments. Pickleball is living rent free in their heads lol.

try a blind test somehow, you might be hitting it harder because of placebo effect

In singles is it illegal to pop it to the opposite side of the court so they can’t get it it to try and hit it

Lol a bigger sweet spot?!? Since when does led tape make the center sweet spot of a racket... Bigger in any way?

Physics - more mass in the same motion = more force.

So... Uh... Am I missing something? Couldn't the paddle design just be a little more top heavy? Why do you need tape? This seems so counterintuitive, are there no paddle makers that create a professional level racket?

Lead should be illegal in tournament/ranked play.

Was he swinging harder with the tape to make your point?
