Για την Σμύρνη Τραγουδώ - Gia tin Smyrni Tragoudo - Chris Anastasiou

From the CD 'Elliniko Zeimpekiko' this song refers to the Massacre of Smyrni (or Smyrna) whereby the Greeks were forced out and had to return to Greece or flee to other countries. As the song lyrics state in partial Turkish (chorus), without money, shoes, shirt and yilek they were thrown out of the homes and were forced onto ships to leave. The lyrics were from the great grandmother of Nikolas Liolios who lived this tragedy and would sing these lyrics in a mourning melody. Nikolas Liolios put the lyrics together and completed the song. The music was written by Chris Anastasiou. The resemblance of the song is very close to the Cyprus occupation by the Turks in 1974 giving the singer the chance to express true feeling in regards to the lyrics.
