The sheer creativity Ermey displays while positively ROARING such artisanal profanity is a sight to behold. The fact that he ad-libbed nearly all of his character’s dialogue, including the legendary storm of insults and swearing is beyond impressive.

According to R Lee Ermeys book, Vincent was actually really scared at the top and frozen. R Lee ad libbed the rest, saving the scene. The story is in the book "Gunny's Rules".

Ermey said that he would have sent someone like Pyle home instead of trying to break them like Hartman did. Ermey used the same tactics his character did, down to punching recruits in the gut, but how Hartman treated Pyle made him a bad drill instructor in Ermey's opinion.

I love this scene!!!! I've heard a lot of funny stuff in my 44 years, and had the privilege of serving in two branches of the armed forces (Army and Navy). With that said, I've never heard the term "if it short-dicks every cannibal on the Congo!" It sound funny but I don:t have a clue as to what it means?
