The 1984 video game Elite - thought to be the first to produce genuinely 3D graphics - has been redeveloped for a modern audience after being crowdfunded. BBC Click's Spencer Kelly meets one of the original co-creators, David Braben, who masterminded the new version.

There are a handful of great or potentially monumental space sims coming out within the next year or two. I'm a backer for Star Citizen and I'll be picking this up shortly. Good to be a space fan nowadays.

Do anybody know about release date of this? Elite was my first game what I remember that I spent weeks to play it. 2-3-4 times I played this out :)))
I do not know if the feeling will be same with this new one, but I would like to have this to check :)

Grew up with this game. Grown to old to game, 46. Was tempted again, but it only being online, for me, is a no no. If the site crashes, or hacked, then, that's it. I am still, slightly, and I mean slightly, tempted. Itchy trigger finger!

The snip about and from 'many were British fans' is not entirely correct. When fans all over the world found out about the Kickstarter many of them contributed. I feel that was just added to try and insult somewhere. It would be fine if it was actually true, though it is not. The makers of the video should cite only if its true.

Also Elite came out in 1984. 3D Monster Maze came out in 1982 (and a few others but will name that one). So who was first?

not the first 3d game at all... I know of arcade games from 83 that were 3d...
