I know you place visual effects low in terms of your grading scale but they're what makes this skin for me. The fact that his particles are dripping magma rather than just fire really makes it stand out among the other element themed skins.

I believe that rather than trying to bring out the hard-bitten warrior as you said, the skin tries to turn him into a typical character/protagonist from Chinese xanxia stories(immortal cultivation and over the top martial arts) and I think it does it pretty well and I agree that they didn’t have to change much character wise since his story already lined up with a lot of the typical tropes of this genre

All of Sett’s skins are pretty great but yeah, this one’s probably the weakest of them

All the other skins are either very different or shows different facets of his character and personality

fun fact: For months after this skin's release I couldn't really tell this skin apart from the base one until I got a really good look at it when I got it from a chest

Should give him a skin from the Marauder line. Imagine big armored shoulder pads, that angular helmet, fur collar and huge armored gauntlets for him to punch you with.

it does make it a boring cosmetic off of an existing character, but as a concept it's pretty fun and solid. But since it's basically the same story as Sett just with the dragon difference then- eh, it's really just an alternate universe version of the same character. A "what if Sett but he dragon instead of fuzzy ear boy"

TB you should really take a look at DoTA 2's Marci. She's an awesome example of a non-verbal character in media (which are like, insanely rare as representation for neuro-divergent folks, especially women is basically non-existent), and she also has the awesome upside of wearing clothing that is 100% appropriate for a traveler. No excessive cleavage, or random spiky armor, just functional, road-worn clothing.

I know it's a shift from your normal content but it really deserves more attention as a character design.

His pose is perfect for a character driven by endless grief, looking up into the sky not because of arogance, but because the sky is the only things That brings him any relief anymore

The worst thing about this skin is the removal of the fur that sett has in his base skin in favor of this spike's that are far less prominent, especially when dragon sett with full w turns red and he kinda is redish so it doesn't stand out as much as base sett where you feel like you gonna punch a guy with 2k true dmg hit

Okay, hear me out... A skin doesn't need to reinvent the concept of a character or turn it into something extra or different in order to achieve the purpose of a skin. I agree with you 100% generally speaking, TB, however I also think it's awesome when certain skins manage to feel like indeed the same character but ina different outfit, when it manages to capture an energy of "you could place this skin into the canon universe and it wouldn't feel out of place".
Like what if Sett took over a former dragon Hunter who came for his title and took his trophies as his own. Similar vibes for most of the fiddlesticks skins for example, with my personal favourite - Pharaoh curse-of-the-mummy fiddlesticks really fitting the image he would have in Shuriman retellings of his legend, or spirit blossom kindred and Lilia. And augmented Singed. And the God Emperor skins for Darius and Garen. I think it can be surprisingly difficult to recapture the essence of a champion ina way that is fresh and interesting, but which doesn't make it look like a parallel universe or a kitsch cosmetic. Give some sugar to the immersion junkies like me who love a canon-plausible feel in their games, but with multiple aesthetic options to choose from besides just the base model or a chroma.

I just want one Pizza Delivery Sett skin because I find it funny if he is a boss of an actual establishment and his empowers Q and ult effects could be splattered tomatoes or other pizza ingredients
