Ooh, one thing I forgot to ask - let me know as well what kind of content you like on this channel and if you have any particular requests for upcoming videos! ☺️

Thanks for talking about the "joys" of jobhunting so openly. I feel it's a topic that's so relevant to a lot of us and yet gets often overlooked in conversations.
Partly maybe because on some level we are embarassed about it? I know I am. I always find it so uncomfortable when I have to tell people. No matter how many times I repeat to myself that THERE IS NO SHAME in not having a job rn / not finding the next one straight away.
It's so hard to explain that your looking for something that's "right" for you. not just "any" job. And that me being lucky, currently not having to worry about roof over my head or what I'm gonna eat.
The whole situation just makes life so stressfull :( Really takes a toll on your mental health, doesn't it?
So congratulations to you, that your troubles are over! and good luck to all of us still looking, still fighting and doing our best to stay positive!
We can do it!

Congratulations on the new job! Great news, I hope you feel fulfilled and happy there. Having always been in medicine, it's interesting to hear other people's experiences about finding their path.
Content-wise all your videos are fab. Love your vlogs. Would be cool to have a bookshelf tour/ how do you organise books. The dilemmas of a book nerd tag would be interesting to hear about how you organise books, do you dnf etc etc x

Phew! I totally understand that immense sense of relief. I hope that your new position will be a good fit, or at least be enjoyable enough that you feel able to hang in there while you do some more soul-searching. Back in May I took a job that I wasn't necessarily thrilled about, but it allowed me to get out of a really bad job situation I was in. Turns out, I love it! Sometimes the universe is guiding us towards something and we don't always realize it at the time, and we just have to let go and trust. You didn't really "fail" at an opportunity, you just kind of veered onto a different path, and it turned out it was the better one all along. Failure was just the mechanism for realizing that. And now, you can just kind of follow your green lights. That's always seemed to work out for me :)

Congrats on the new job. Well done for picking yourself up & getting on with it. I'm delighted it's Sept - my fave month of the year. Love that nip in the air & nights drawing in 🍁🍂

I recently applied for a management position at my company and was turned down for the position. I've been feeling a bit lost since then because I've been doing that position for quite a while and it's caused some self doubt about my work. It's nice to hear that it can turn out well in the end :)

Congratulations on the new job. Summer was busy this year got a new job too and also had a long weekend in Scotland and moved flat - so your reminder to register to vote was well timed! Have done so now.

The Met Museum is my NY tip - it’s beautiful 😍

Thank you for this video! I'm dealing with my own setback that's resulted in my having to move back to the US, where I haven't lived since finishing my undergrad. It's so scary to be taking a step without having a plan for the first time in...my whole life? It is honestly really helpful to hear stories of people who've come out the other side of similarly rough patches and ended up in a good place!

The new job sounds really interesting! Congratulations! :) My summer has been crazy busy too - this whole year, really. I did get to work on my novel more consistently though, so that's nice! :) (Let's just ignore the appalling upload schedule on my channel, and the mounting backlog of videos needing to be edited and posted. 😳 )

Congrats on the new job! I went through something similar about a year ago now, and one of the frustrating aspects of the job search was that it all seems to be set up for people who are looking to do the exact same thing at a new organization... but for those who want or need to make a bit of a left turn in their careers it's tougher to figure out what you want and then convince others why they should choose you. Excited to hear what your new time-consuming pet project will be -- sounds like you won't be able to help yourself but take on something new now that you have free time again!

so relatable, as always. iIve has some huge setbacks recently and trying to motivate myself has been so hard. especially because, as you say, there's this tendency to sell yourself short. but working on getting back in the game :)

I totally get that job hunting stress. I just moved to a different city and am finishing school right now, so I'm also applying for different jobs on the entry level. Very intense stuff! :D I'm interested in so many different things and my degree doesn't really have a job discription so it's like " thats sounds good, that sounds interesting, that sounds fun..." but I feel so underprepared for the jobmarket. I'm really glad you found something that suits you, I hope I do to. Really like this catch-up and hope you have a lovely week.

This video has been such a comfort to watch...your talk on jobs really resonated with me. I'm also on a fixed term contract that's ending soon and it's going to be extended but I'm no longer sure of working in that position. I'm glad everything is working out for you! It's nice knowing, everyone is on similar albeit different boats!

You gotta go on Broadway, see a show in NYC. I have always wanted to visit Central Park and The Strand Bookstore. NBC studios is cool. I went there in High School.

Congrats on your new job!!! I am currently on the job market, and what you said about not having confidence in your abilities is SO TRUE! Thanks for sharing your experiences and showing me that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

I really enjoy your content and am looking forward to whatever you decide to upload (sorry for not being helpful 😅).

I can relate to this. A few months ago I moved from the UK to New Zealand with my Kiwi partner (who was offered a job here). We were running a business together in the UK and I was convinced I’d continue with it out here - but getting it off the ground has been very difficult with a lot of false starts, and in the meantime I’ve seen some full-time roles that I think would be good (and, just, easier than starting a new business in a new country!).

Anyway, recalibrating your career in your late 20s / early-to-mid 30s is probably pretty common - but still pretty daunting too. Good luck!
