So true, I've been re-editing some old D700 raw files and even when looking at some JPEGs, they have a certain look, artistic, filmic, not sure but everyone seems to still love their rendition.

Everyone have been comparing the Z8 with the D850 for weeks but ever since it was rum ored I called that the Z8 would be the successor to the D700! Nikon never did that move of putting almost the same burst speeds, same sensot, same autofocus in a cheaper camera after the D700 was released (only two that could come a little close are the Df which had the D4's sensor but not the same AF and the D850 which had the D5's AF but not the same sensor)

you said that the D700 was much slower than the D3, and just looking at the cameras as they are it's pretty true as the D700 could only do 5fps

however, with the battery grip it could do 8fps, which came super close of the D3's 9fps

So in the end, in my eyes, the D700 was really a cheaper D3 made for people that did not really care about the things that the D3 would bring (the two only differences I can see is that the D3 could do 11fps in DX crop mode had contrast AF in live view and had a second card slot)

The shutter in the D700 was rated by Nikon at half the shutter count of the D3, but honestly I suspect this to be purely marketing, the D700 is a litteral tank and it's a common thing to see those cameras go well over 700k clicks without a shutter replacement

I still use a D700 and believe it's the best DSLR for photography. It's an amazing camera and I'll always own atleast one. It's like the Nikon FM2 of digital.

Just bought a used D5600 from MPB and I love it. (Replaces my old D50, which I also loved). Bought a couple more used lenses also. I am perfectly content and take some very good photos. It gets old seeing photo snobs commenting on how terrible this camera or that camera is, how you can’t possibly survive with one camera or another, or with Nikon at all. (Please! 🤣) Believe it or not the quality of images sometimes depends on the person behind the shutter.

The best DSLR cameras Nikon ever made are :
The Nikon D850 / D780 (with 100% silent shutter in love view) and the APSC D7500 which is a mini D500, fully compatible with older acre focus lenses and a bargain now. The IQ of these cameras is outstanding too

I want a Z 7iii with mechanical shutter, capable AF and 6K video in 10-bit and HDR. Don’t need 8K.
Z 9 and Z 8 have only the dynamic range of Z 6 because they are shutterless.

Nothing can beat the amazing colours and rendering from the d700 the legend. Specially for portraits, Just Sold my new zf and buy

Please explain why the Z7 ii isn’t the mirrorless successor to the D850. Same sensor size, identical IQ, same features, …, with IBIS, EVF, and higher fps. AF systems are comparable with the Z7 ii having eye tracking.

Nikon did it all the the time during d-dlr day the D80 and D200 had the same sensor but different bodies and auto focus

Matt hello, I take pictures of landscapes, especially night landscapes milyway, I need a better dynamic range, bit color depth and better ISO, according to dxomark the best D850 and Z7Ii, Z9 (8) is a few points behind, how to be, I don’t need video.

As a former Nikon user* (Still own the D700 and some lenses) All in on Sony and GM lenses now since 2019. I would buy the Z8 if I was in that system.
