Timeline: What If You Eat Glass?

Sharp objects like broken glass will most likely pass once they are in the stomach or further along. It is very unlikely that these will cause internal damage once they’ve passed into the stomach. But what if someone decided to eat glass as a whole or swallowed large portionsof it? Will it damage and cut internal parts of your body from mouth down to the buttocks? Most of the damage here is caused by the sharpness of the glass. If you swallowed smooth, rounded pieces of glass instead, then you would probably get a bowel obstruction.

This is HIGHLY inaccurate. If you were to eat glass you would most likely cut your mouth and tongue, but you would grind down the glass that would eventually be swallowed causing next to no esophageal damage. And even if some shards went down with your throat and caused incisions in the throat and esophageal tract, they would not cause huge amounts of blood loss; although would most likely be very painful. As for glass entering the stomach, it would all be digested. And if there were larger chunks (which would be highly unlikely due to the fact that we can only swallow something so big) they would have been sitting in acid for a good while which would "polish off" or dull any sharp edges from glass. This would cause the glass to pass through the intestines unharmed except for perhaps some mild discomfort from largish glass chunks. Do NOT eat glass, but if you do by accident be rest assured that this will NOT happen.

Well I have a story of eating some glass :)


So, me and my stepsisters and brothers and dad were making slime. We had glass containers with glitter in them, which I thought were plastic. My dad collected one of the glass containers and tapped in on his teeth for some reason. I wanted to do the same, but I thought he bit down on it, so I bit down on it, not knowing it was glass ( I also have a addiction to chewing on things ) . Then, the container broke and my mouth had glass in it. I didn’t get hurt, but I might have swallowed a few pieces of glass. I was never having any of these things happen, thankfully. It was a small container, and I had gotten most glass out. Great videos btw!
