Holden has gone back to the future, restoring its very first concept car -- the 1969 Holden Hurricane.

The futuristic research vehicle described as an experiment "to study design trend, propulsion systems and other long range developments" has been restored to its former glory as a labour of love by a dedicated group of Holden designers and engineers.

Code named RD 001; the Hurricane is a mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, two-seater sports car which incorporates a remarkable array of innovative features and technology, much of it way ahead of its time.

Features include:

electronic digital instrument displays,
station-seeking radio,
automatic temperature control air conditioning,
rear vision camera
automated route finder

Holden Hurricane goes on show to the public for the first time at Motorclassica, Melbourne, October 21-23

I would totally drive this. And it doesn't even look like it was made in 1969. It looks like it was made 20 years later. Can't believe they only made one of these

Worked in Holden Engineering Dept well after this car was conceived but remember hearing stories from the the old tradies about how many tipped their own time into this cars being well after their normal daily shift had finished. Such was their passion for this cars existence . . . . that was Holden then . . . remember those times forever as the old Fishermans bend plant is pulled apart . . . Golden Holden memories

I remember seeing this in the Holden Musuem in Echuca back in the early 90's

It was just sitting in a corner neglected. I am glad they pulled it out and fixed it up.

Oh YES! One of my favourite concept cars ever, well done to the team. :-D I'll second the desire to see this in Forza 4, along with some other classic Holdens.

Congrats, lovely to see it bought back to it's former glory.Must have been a wild time for you blokes back then.Doing the Hurricane, organising the Torana six and getting the HQ sorted.Opportunity missed however with the GTR/X Torana. I reckon.the punters would have gone nuts for it over the Datsun 240Z.Congrats again for the resto job.Be proud of yourselves for the original 1969 effort and the preservation of something special.

@mmciau The team were able to source those wheels from Dunlop in the UK. They are an exact match for the originals

That's a gel coat with glitter added. Most commonly seen on speedboats from the early 70s, on cars, not so much. (glitter gel coating was invented in South Australia, btw)
