In Depth: Battleground: Maharashtra & Haryana

Just months after the marathon seven-phased countrywide Lok Sabha elections, it's time now for another political battle in the states of Haryana and Maharashtra. On 21st of this month, both states will go to polls to elect a new Assembly for five years. Both Haryana and Maharashtra together comprise around 108 million voters, who will decide whether to hand a second term to the incumbent BJP, or bring back the opposition into power. In Maharashtra, it is going to be a direct contest between the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combine and the Congress-NCP alliance. While in Haryana, it is a going to be a three-cornered contest: Traditional rivals BJP and Congress against the smaller parties fighting to save their dynasties.
