You're right. Tomb Raider games always had those real puzzle solving elements. Not like Uncharted's ones where you just have to open the notebook which will tell all the things you need to do (like for five year old kid)...

Frankly, that's how things usually are in games that aren't open world. Pretty much every game of this type consists of small linear paths, which sometimes branch into multiple linear paths, with a collectible. Even the older TR games don't do much to take the player off a linear back-and-forth path. It's all linear at the end of the day, but relatively speaking, this isn't *that* linear. And it resembles GoL, which is actually a plus.
Games like FF13 are the ones that really define linearity.

It's really not, if you had listened to what the developers were saying, they also showed some of the exploration bits. You'd have to search for pockets of exploration and discover things. Not only did they show exploration in different ways, they wanted to save time and show the gameplay where you have to go to the tower. Anywhere along the way, if you wanna stop and explore, you can.

Where have you been? because Tomb Raider since the first game on PS1, Sega Saturn, and PC has used colors and shades to guide players to objects and the stealth mechanics were introduced to Tomb Raider on the very first PS2 game Angel of Darkness. Tomb Raider 3 added crawling and sprinting so this game just takes all that and uses it in a different way. The art style still looks like Crystal Dynamics handy work just more graphical detail than Legend, Anniversary, and Underworld.

AMAZING!!! I especially love the water effects!!

They would be using an earlier build because fixing bugs could mean any number of things since they have to keep reprograming the game with every bug they find. They have to change the game's programing almost entirely each time they find a bug.

My 2nd most anticipated game. Really cannot wait for this game to come out. I am going to love it.

I'm pretty sure it will have a bit of both... Maybe not as *much* exploration as we expect from what devs say, but more than what you're putting. Take into account it's a tutorial. Tutorials are usually streamlined as compare to the game.

If anyone ever played the entire lineage of Tomb Raider games, they would most certainly not call it a linear style game. The first 3 Tomb Raiders gave you massive (for the time) levels to explore with basically no inclination of where to go next. YOU needed to find that ledge, YOU needed to work out if you could make that jump. The later ones removed some of this, although were still enjoyable games. Anyone comparing Uncharted to TR is not paying respect to the game that laid its foundation.

i was pondering my pre order, the gsme seemed to be very linear and generic, but watching this has reassured me, it uses metroid esque systems and still has puzzling, this game really looks like a unique experience, especially as im an xbox player and so havent had the joy of uncharted!

To be fair, Drake in Uncharted 3 IS shown as weak and vulnerable (they show how he essentially became a treasure hunter when he was a teen). This game is also linear, its just "wide linear" like MGS. Other than that you are right but people are not really saying that this game is copying Uncharted in those ways, they are simply saying that the feel (in terms of movement, cinematics and such) of this game are like Uncharted (although a lot less polished) but i don't think this game is copying UC.

Yes I did. You don't understand the point. Puzzles in Uncharted are really easy but yes, very awesome looking. All solutions were in notebooks which Nate had in all three games. ND wanted to make games which will create that "smooth" impresion. With no staying in one place too long and thinking about solving the puzzles, like the movie exactly. I'm not saying those games are bad. I enjoyed playing them for combat and action but puzzles were no big challenge, except great visualizations.

Not surprising to find people drawing comparisons between Uncharted and Tomb Raider due to their similiar themes. Both games have a different focus, Uncharted is an action blockbuster experience, often mixing traversal, stealth, cover based gunplay, hand-to-hand seemlessly. Setpieces are par for the course, puzzles are light and used sparingly, more often when the environment calls for it. Tomb Raider however has always been more platforming and puzzle oriented, with little gunplay or action.

Again, if you had seen interviews with Karl Stewart and Noah Huges, they have mentioned several times that this is the smaller hub systems in the game and there are much bigger ones later on. What they showed here, the indoor parts, its obvious theres less explorable regions. What? If they do show the bigger spaces, you'll complain they're showing too much. So really, its best to get the game and find out for yourself.

i was very skeptical on this game for a long time. Until I saw this video. This looks fun and entertaining. I hope there will be a downloadable demo release for PSN and for Xbox users.

I like the intro into the tomb. Like a new ancient world discovered haha. It's a mini one but I love it. Can't wait to see some of the bigger tombs they got. =D <3 This game is looking fantastic! It's visually stunning!

They were being produced at the same time. Far Cry 3 was just released, Tomb Raider in a couple of months. There isn't any copying so no need for a comparison by people making it seem like copying is going on.

It's cool to come back and go places you couldn't before, but when you initially find them it's really annoying knowing there's something in there but you can't get to it.
