When I was 5, my dad showed this animation to me. 10 years later and it's a HUGE hit of nostalgia. Love the music, animation, and story.

One of the finest examples of animated storytelling ever.

Happy 100 years to Rhapsody in Blue today and to the best animated interpretation of Jazz there is.

I think one of the most interesting scenes is the ice skating scene where each character reflects on their desires (because reflection means being near a form of IMPORTANT water and STARING at it).

The daughter, who has all of these opportunities for developing talented and prepared for the world just wants the love and attention of her parents and to be a child who plays and runs.

The out of work Joe has a simple desire for a job and stability, which is a simple and acceptable desire given that making a stable living is almost crucial in most first world societies.

The Drummer (probably the most relatable for me) has a stable living with a paycheck and roof over his head, but wants to take the artist route and be expressive and entertaining, and the part where he’s looking at the jackhammer and drum sticks hits me like a truck. Wanting to be good at what you do and enjoy doing it.

And of course the well off rich man could do whatever he wants with the resources he has but just wants to be himself and enjoy his simple pleasures and hobbies and also seeks independence from his unhappy marriage that shackles his personality and has him on a leash.

Ever since I was a little kid, Fantasia 2000 was one of my favorite movies to watch. This song was my absolute favorite out of all of them and it has made me appreciate music till this today. I am now a musician thanks to this movie and it’s powerful pieces. The art style of the cartoons also brought everything together and told a wonderful and inspirational story.

I’m sure that without this piece of music I wouldn’t be where I am today and I would not know all about music and how amazing it can be. I also wouldn’t know the amazing people who are like a family to me in my band classes at school and in my school’s marching band.

It’s really amazing how much a piece of music can impact your life, what it can make you feel, and how powerful of a story it can tell. I’m sure that I’ll keep listening to this music for years to come and I hope to one day play it. Thank you, George Gershwin, for creating this masterpiece to share with the world.

This cartoon is so deeply moving and meaningful to me.it's amazing how you completely understand everything going on without a word said. I don't know if it's the masterfully created cartoon or the elegance in the instruments or both. Just every part about it is just beautiful. Almost brings me to tears.

I used to sit underneath my grandfathers drawing board from the ages 2-5 years old. He would play Rhapsody in Blue on his record player while I watched him work and he took notice every time he did, that I enjoyed it. I’m 25 now, he still sits at his drawing board everyday working on his weekly cartoon for the Washington Post, and whenever I’m with him, we sit and listen to this piece together in it’s entirety, & I enjoy every moment of it.

I wish more Fantasia movies were being made. I’d love to have seen more American composers such as ScottJoplin get animated sequences.

My gramdfather passed away 3 days ago and we used to watch this when I was really little. I always remembered the annimation and searched forever until three days ago when outside of the hospital did I find out with my family, he had requested this song to be played upon the end of his life and I'm so happy to have found this annimation so I can watch and listen knowing it was one of his favorites as well.

My music teacher ran this film over and over again even if we knew nothing about classical music nor we could read English. I remember her shed tears when Luciano Pavarotti passed away, saying 'a star has fallen last week'. Now that I am in my 30s, I can understand what it says in the film, but I still need more time to understand her passion and love towards the classical music. This song reminds me of her a lot.
