In The Summertime is a massively popular summer anthem. Written by Ray Dorset, the group’s lead singer using his second hand Fender Stratocaster, it became Britain’s biggest selling single in 1970 and went on to become one of the best selling singles of all time.

It reached number one in the charts around the world including France, Germany, Italy, Australia, and in the UK where it spent 7 weeks at number one. It also received an NME award for best British song that year.

In 1995 Shaggy featuring Rayyon covered the song making the top 5 in the UK.

In the Summertime is an all-time summer anthem, as popular as ever it is constantly featured in Summer playlists as well as being features in a host of TV shows and movies over the years including Despicable Me 2 (in 2013), and The Simpsons (in 2004).

What a song! My older brother told me this story about my Grandad during the 70's. He was at an all night poker game in the backroom of some South London cafe. He left the cafe about 9 o'clock the next morning the game had just finished, he walked out with 8 grand in his bag. This song was playing in the cafe as he left. Back then you could get a house for 2 or 3 grand, so you get the gist. And something funny he told my older brother about just fun tokens" 😂 that will never ever leave me lol

This is a classic decades later and still going strong in my collection of CD's to play on a road trip. Turn up the volume and sing along. I first heard it as a child and my mom and I would dance around in the living room listening to it. Good memories.

This song reminds me a lot of my late uncle. He didn't have much money but used what he had to enjoy life to its fullest. On Memorial Day every year, we'd all meet at his trailer, and my cousin and I would go swimming in his community's pool.

Grew up in the 1970s as a teen, you could never walk when you heard this song, you sash-shayed or danced on the sidewalk, mall, anywhere. No walking allowed. Greatest music in the late 60's and 70s.! Montego Bay is another one. Enjoy!🌴

this always reminds me of the summers of my youth at Belmont Park in San Diego on Mission Beach. We'd go early on a Saturday morning, buy the all day pass for $2.50 and just ride the rides and play skeeball. there was one ride called the Taboggan (basically going round and round a big undulating circle) and they would blast this tune during the ride. it was awesome.
