The more we see imu's powers, the more i feel like he has the same type of devil fruit/powers as Luffy but the dark version of it. Luffy has the power to make dreams come true and has a very childish imagination while imu has the power to make nightmares and uses his imagination to create these monsters and their powers, hence the gorosei having nightmarish monster vibes. It really begins to feel like a battle between good and evil, light and dark, the sun and the moon, dreams and nightmares, ...

Im glad he really suffered instead of it being like a POOF and hes dead. And its comedic that it happened after the Gorosei told Figarland to know his place.
