Is the 42-Inch OLED TV better? LG C2 42 as a PC monitor

Yes, I think the 42-inch OLED TV size is going to be better for Computer use but other than the size, there's not a whole lot that's improved from the previous LG C1 and CX 48-Inch OLED TVs, which makes not much of an upgrade.

LG C2 42 inch OLED TV

Ergotron HX Monitor Arm:

VIVO VESA Bracket Adapter MOUNT-AD4X2 (Be sure to get a 300x200 VESA compatible mount)

Monitor Lamp

Rtings review of the LG C2 42:

00:00 - Smaller is Better
00:39 - Not Worth the Price to Upgrade
01:31 - Included Stand is Not Great
02:26 - Ultrawide Mode is Very Limited
03:30 - No 120Hz BFI
03:48 - Game Mode is Darker
04:24 - Slower Menus
04:35 - LG CX 48 is still great

The smaller screen is much more manageable and I prefer it, but right now the 48" C1 is $800 at BestBuy and the 42" C2 is $1400. That's going to make it a tough sell for a lot of people.

Every video from you is a treat! Really appreciating the content!

Although probably not the main focus of the video, I love that you went back to the acacia countertop desk - it just looks so nice! Really looking forward to "Dream Desk Setup 6.0" which I understand is in the making :-)

Keep up the great work!

42" screen size is a welcomed improvement and I'm sure will work for some people's desk setup. For others though, more affordable and smaller OLED monitors can't come soon enough.

It's been so long, David! Hope you're doing well and glad to see another video from you :)

very good reviews...love the sections on text clarity. It's hard to be a PC builder that lives in a productivity world because every component, it seems, is reviewed entirely from the perspective of gamers; that's fine, I enjoy games too, but so few reviewers include things like this.

As usual, thanks for sharing your thoughts. It’s interesting how the ultra wide monitors are increasing in size, getting closer to these smaller smart TV sizes. Even Samsung has their own line of “Smart Monitors” that have the functionality of smart TVs. Hoping to see more interesting products come out in this space.

As someone who tried the 48" and now uses the 42" as a monitor, its a LOT better size for sitting at a desk, however, I'd still much rather have something between 32-37" so I dont have to move my head around as much

Thank you, I have the 48” and I was thinking on the 42” but I think I’ll wait now until the upgrade is more than just the size difference

Tip: using an application for Windows called Sizer, you can set Windows to have whatever resolution you want. Very comfortable.

I purchased my 42 inch LG C2 OLED around Christmas of 2022. Was eyeing it since it came out & MSRP was $1400. When it went on sale for $999 I knew it was a no brainer, then it went on sale for $799, absolute no brainer. I can say whole heartedly this TV is the best technological buy I’ve ever made. It produces Chrystal clear blacks & does 4k 120 for almost every game with my series X. With a high level of performance for viewing in general, I’d say for the price I got the best bang for my buck. I was coming from a 65 inch Sony x85J, which also does 4k 120, but not like this TV 😍 if you’re in the market for an amazing gaming TV that doubles as an overall great experience while viewing literally anything, if you’re willing to spend the money… BUY THIS TV. You don’t regret anything!

Had the 48, returned it. Picked up the 42 for a good deal. Use it in ultrawide mode and loving every minute of it.

I’m loving all these vids about using oled tvs as monitors. Hopefully it signals monitor companies to get on the ball with making oled monitors normal

Thank you so much for the update! I really like your point of view since you used the 48'' for a good while and have real-world experience; very insightful and informative.

I was torn between C2 48” and C2 42”, but eventually went with 42” because it is lighter (9 kg) vs 19kg of 48”. Then I found out about the whole fiasco over EVO panel (WBE vs WBC) which now I regret my purchase.
For some reason LG screw up and didn’t update C2 48” so it is essentially last years C1 minus BFI but with slight improvements. The C2 55” is the one with real EVO panel and it is massively lighter weighing at only 12 kg so it can definitely be put on a monitor arm. The only drawback for 55” is it is a bit too large… if only LG put EVO panel in 48” and use C2 design so it only weighs 11 kg then it would be the perfect monitor….
I guess I have to wait til next year’s C3 to find out…

Great video! Lots of the small things that no other reviews look at. I used the CX 48" for two years as a desktop monitor and definitely would have preferred the smaller size, but I had mine at 1m viewing distance with 125% scaling. I also wanted to use the bottom 2/3rds of the screen more where the top ended up being less used except for large code windows. These would be perfect if they could make them just a bit smaller still, like 38".

This is the best TV I've ever had as a monitor!!!

I was considering the 48 inch last year after watching your videos but decided to wait for the 42 inch which I finally bought 3 weeks ago. I switched from 28 inch 4k 144hz ips display and going oled blew my mind. The image is just so much better and 3d'ish with that deep blacks. Playing games in true oled HDR is huge upgrade, much bigger than lets say ray tracing. I also prefer the mirror like finish than matt finish from regular monitor. Thanks for your informative videos.

I bought my 48" C1 as a PC monitor just over 6 months ago...originally I was going to wait for the 42" C2 however the drop in price for the 48 C1 vs the announced price for the 42" C2 motivated me to buy the C1...
and I am so happy the C1 did not come in 42" or I would have bought that...
but I love the 48" screen size.
I jumped into PC gaming just over a year ago but I was never fully satisfied with PC gaming until I bought the 48" C1.
Although I had a very good 27" 1440p 165hz PC gaming monitor I wanted a larger monitor along with 4k, HDR, etc.
