Through Charles Darwin’s work, he provided a supposed scientific justification for a very particular kind of racism. He wrote some despicable things in his book, The Descent of Man, that led to all kinds of horrific atrocities. #charlesdarwin #answersingenesis #evolution

In high school we learned about the Nazi Holocaust and the 'stolen generations' of Australia's indigenous people. One of the central ideas of the Third Reich was that the Aryan people were the 'master race', and that they had to exterminate people who they saw as genetically inferior to them.

In debates about what happened in Australia, European ideas about civilisation being superior to other cultures and Christian ideas are often blamed for the removal of indigenous children from their homes and families. At school we learned about some of the things that the authorities believed at the time. One idea was that it did not matter if an indigenous child was taken away from their mother. In two weeks the mother would forget that the child ever existed.

It could be asked to what extent the ideas of Charles Darwin influenced this view. White Europeans had to see indigenous people as like animals instead of human beings like themselves who had memories and emotions.

It is not often acknowledged that in Australia's colonial era there were many white Christian settlers who stood up for indigenous people.

Darwin didn't invent racism. He was merely restating an idea as ancient as humanity itself.

You fail to mention that science is what proved that race is entirely a social construct, thanks to the help of genetics, anthropology, and evolutionary biology.

So sad to think that evilution has kept so many from believing in Jesus. Nothing is worth going to hell over. Especially not pride.

I feel like I’m the only one who says this kind of stuff. Looking for missing links in africa is racist . The out of africa theory is racist.

This is quite offensive because I literally have people in my family who look similar to this black man on this photo 📸, infact I see my Dad, my uncles ect...but they label 🏷 us as savages eyt they found monarchy in Africa...so how can savages have monarchy? Right...

One of the problems with this video is that the term "missing link" has no place in evolution. It's from an earlier idea called the Great Chain of Being. Sticking it in here as if it is Darwin's fault is bogus.

Darwin's statements on race are not as bad as this video pretends, and they are a product of his cultural past, not a malign influence shaping the future of an entire culture.
Race-based chattel slavery was a thing before Darwin. The American Civil War's Confederacy was based entirely on racist views that are far worse than this video pretends Darwin's were. Those views were plainly stated in their articles of secession two decades before Darwin ever published.

Social Darwinism is a modern name given to several theories of society, which emerged in the United Kingdom, North America and Western Europe in the 1870s. It is an attempt to apply Darwinism to human societies. It describes the use of the concepts of struggle for existence and survival of the fittest, to justify policies that do not distinguish between those capable of supporting themselves and those unable to support themselves. This concept motivated the ideas of eugenics, racism, imperialism, fascism, Nazism and the struggle between national groups and ethnicities.

Any evidence or studies that suggest that there are group differences in intelligence or temperment are endlessly critiqued with allegations that factors such as
privilege, bvias, stereotype-threat, SES were not accounted for. Then the researcher is called a racist and folks say "it is proven that there are no group differences". Just because a study can be critiqued, doesn't mean that the conclusion is wrong.
You know one can rank-order different breeds of dogs and horses by intelligence, temperment, and physical capabilities, but when researchers rank-order different groups of people that way, some folks get upset and then they get hyper critical. What if the same criticism was levied at those that say German Shepherds or Border Collies are smarter than Bassett or Afghan Hounds? One could say that "apparent" differences in their intelligence is due to bvias, stereotype-threat, privilege and SES; but it is actually much more reasonable to conclude that German Shepherds are smarter than Afghan Hounds. And yes, I concede that dogs within a breed are more similar to each other than people within a race. I also concede that the biological differences between dog breeds is bigger than the average biological differences between races.

Its pretty bad that when people use the excuse we are animlas to support animalistic ideologies, the more people will hurt one another. I will not choose to believe something like that

No one teaches this. His ideas about what she is describing is totally separate from what they teach. In fact, I am a biologist. In college and high school none of this came up. Only thing we studied was HOW evolution works. Not one second of that time was spent on Darwin’s personal thoughts about race… which isn’t even a real thing race is social concept not a biological one.

Actually no… Darwin was a stanch defender of minorities. No where in any of his works was race paired with humans. He would talk about a race of birds.., race being a classification system at that time.

...yeah. Darwin was wrong about a lot and kind of sucked in many ways. He's not venerated as a prophet and his writing isn't viewed as inerrant. Some of his ideas have withstood scrutiny, and the rest is dismissed as garbage. It's not an all or nothing thing.

This does not disprove evolution. Nice try.

Fundamentalist nonsense, Darwin was less racist than most in his age and the cherry picked quote you used doesn't even make sense so I feel like it's full of ellipses.
