New 2020 MINI Electric revealed – an in-depth tour of the first EV MINI

This is the MINI Electric. A full EV version of the three-door hatch complete with a 124-mile range, three trim levels and a starting price of £24,400. It’s on sale now with deliveries beginning in March 2020.

MINI says the Electric’s arrival is as groundbreaking as the car that heralded the brand’s reinvention in 2001. It also comes in the middle of BMW’s 60th anniversary of the original 1959 Mini, and nine years on from the British brand’s first attempt at an all-electric model. It was called the MINI E, 600 prototypes were built worldwide with selected drivers taking part in feasibility trials, but the cars were never sold to the public.

It has a range that's already 5 years out of date unfortunately. The only upside is that it's a very decent price, but the upcoming electric 208 and Corsa will likely trounce it.

I like the steering wheel but the dashboard does feel a bit too visually complicated. Like the exterior though, kinda want one seems like the perfect car design for an electric.

A stop-gap solution to Mini electrification it seems. A 124-144 mile range is not enough to be competitive over the long run against rivals and if one wants to have this as an effective petrol/diesel car replacement.

Similar range to Honda e it could be a direct competitor for that, especially if Honda's pricing is silly.

My missus did 4500km in her Cooper S this year and we're taking delivery in a couple of months. It will be perfect for the typical driving we do in the car and everyone moaning about the range below...if you're doing 2 x 50ml drives every day then sure this car probably isn't for you. But if you want funky mini styling, german build quality and your driving activities match why go anywhere else?

Sorry guys but this isn't the first pure electric MINI, they had the MINI e back in 2009, about the same time as the 1 Series E, before the i3 came out

The range suggests they only expect two car families to have this as a second car or maybe someone who hardly ever goes any distance. My 2017 Zoe has way more range and was a lot cheaper battery paid for because of the discounts available (OK probably not the same quality of finish or acceleration but I can get to the coast and back without charging and the Mini can't). People who want a Mini would probably buy one but a Zoe / E-208 or electric Corsa probably a better buy in my opinion because of the flexibility of a bigger range.
