In this video we'll learn about direct variation. Specifically, we'll look at a word problem that tells us that the number of teachers in a school varies directly with the number of students, which means that, when the number of students increases, the number of teachers will increase also. Or in the opposite situation, when the number of students decreases, the number of teachers will decrease also.

Hi, I’m Krista! I make math courses to keep you from banging your head against the wall. ;)

Math class was always so frustrating for me. I’d go to a class, spend hours on homework, and three days later have an “Ah-ha!” moment about how the problems worked that could have slashed my homework time in half. I’d think, “WHY didn’t my teacher just tell me this in the first place?!”

Is it possible to make 4 variable inverse variation? Let's say when a goes up b goes down, b goes up c goes down, c goes up d goes down, d goes up a goes down. Is this something that can be mapped or solved in some way? The variation is always when 1 goes up by 10 the other goes down by 8, and they work in isolation of each other ie when b goes down by 8 as a result of a going up by 10, has no effect on c or d.
