Mark Larkham talks camber

An insight into wheel alignment but more importantly camber and its effects. Camber is the measurement of the inclination of the wheel from the vertical, viewed from the front of the vehicle. Camber’s main purpose is to reduce uneven tyre wear on the edges of the tyres by maintaining even contact across the entire tread surface. The vehicle has “+” positive camber when the top of the tyre leans outwards away from the vehicle and has “-” negative camber when the top of the tyre leans inwards towards the vehicle. Under normal driving conditions original rubber bushings or worn components distort and squirm causing the suspension arm to move altering camber settings, resulting in unwanted angle changes. Nolathane suspension products are far superior in maintaining proper camber settings because they do not distort as much as the original rubber components.
What to look for: Smooth edging on the inside of the tyre is caused by excessive “-” camber, smooth edging on the outside of the tyre is caused by excessive “+” camber causing the vehicle to pull to the side with the most “+” camber. Always wheel align camber settings within manufacturer’s specifications.

I took my Lexus rx350 suv for alignment to the shop 5 different times because still pulled left and right they didnt charge me for the other time only 1 price. And they rotated my tires still pulls left and right. Could it be my tie rods?

Caster adjustment is checked and set to specs first and if you set it exactly where you want it then adjusting the camber to spec can change caster somewhat ? No one I ever listened to ever covers this . I figure it is trying to get the right combination with the cam adjusting which can be somewhat tedious to try and hit that sweet spot. From what I have learned caster does not typically effect tire wear but it will definitely effects the handling of the car . Camber and toe misalignment is what wears out your tires prematurely but it can also effect handling like pulling to one side .

Hello I put bigger wheels on my civic, just off old, on new.. now it seems to drive ok but the back wheels have very little neg.camber now, wondering if it's safe and ok? I did take it to a alignment shop and they didn't say much about it so just thought I'd get your opinion..ty

So I have a 03 ranger 2wd I replaced the upper control arms and lower ball joints I took it in for a front end alignment and the camber bolts are still the way I put them I think he only adjusted the tierod ends I know they couldn't have been right cuz I just put them on knowing I was having it aligned the next day so I just put them on without even trying to get them close to what it was before and they are in the exact same position I put them in thats not right is it

So I drive an 09 dodge caliber and as of now I have to replace my front subframe due to rust that tore up my driver side swaybar bracket so it clanks against my tie rod I believe. I have negative camber on both front driver and passenger side tires. I jack up the front end and there is no play left, right, up and down of my tires. what would cause inner tire wear on both sides?
