A new phone would be cool, but I'm always reminding myself what I could do with that money. The improvements after 3 generations are not really worth the money. You can expect a real improvement when changing from, for example, a Samsung A series phone to an S series phone

I have lived in the Apple Garden since the iPhone 5 along with my Apple Watch, iMac, iPad, Apple TV over the years. If I was to leave the Apple Garden it would be to the Google Pixel.

what about the eco-system of other products like laptop, AppleTV or ipad or Airpods or Apple Watch?

If you’re not a phone enthusiast then I think any low end budget phone with long term support should be fine, like the S23FE or IPhone SE. I think the biggest trap is falling for low end phones with a lot of specs but offer little support or shady OS support.

Hey Andrew... Couldn't help but notice the lack of criticism around the lack of sustainability of all the phones you mentioned! What about a phone that you could repair at home and you could get software updates on for the next 8 years instead of the 4 to 5 years is usual... You know the phone that would make you not buy a phone every 18 to 30 months... A phone that could be helping the planet by being sustainable and reduce waste for years to come instead of the yearly cycle of unrepairable paperweight.

Funny how it's so quick and easy to criticise the newcomer to the industry and not use what they bring to the table to criticise the existing players.

If I can summarise to 4 categories as of today,
1. Anything Apple
2. Anything Android (mid-high end)
3. Anything budget phone (mostly Android and anything that just works, usually less famous brand)
4. Anything foldable

So yea. Hope this is much clearer.

I need afforable phone with 200 mp or 1" main camera at 2 - 3 million IDR ($130 to $195). Just one rear camera, a simple front camera, a not so good speaker, screen, etc. But it has microSD slot (dual slot should be better). And also important it has to be in XDA Forum -- rom development. The soc is just barely enough to support 200 mp and 1" and running instagram, tiktok, whatapps almost instanly for a few years to come with Android 19 or more?

Cellphones are a huge ripoff. Who has money to buy a new phone every five or six years for over 1000 dollars or even 500 dollars?

Luckily I don't need a buying guide because I only buy phones with completely smooth screens, I mean without notches or holes. Phones with notches and holes are utterly ugly. So I only have a few options like the iPhone SE, Rog Phone 7, or Sony Xperia series.
