According to the producers of Blue Thunder. The nose cannon of Blue Thunder were made of broomsticks to similiate. The nose weight will be heavy for an actual cannon to be fitted. It wouldn't be easy to liftoff with that much weight.

Fun fact..The little bit in the sequence before blue thunder shows up and they're walking up to the observation deck, although depicting early morning, was actually filmed in the evening

Was Blue Thunder firing explosive rounds or something? There's no reason why everything it hit exploded in flame like that other than to look impressive😂
