While both shapes are elongated, the pear shape will give you more finger coverage at the end of the day. For example, a 3 carat pear shape should be over 12mm in length while an oval will be closer to 11mm. The pear shape is more slender with a length to width ratio around 1.6:1 while an oval gives you a fuller look at a ratio around 1.4:1. Some prefer the oval because it does have a softer appearance while others love the sharp appearance of the pear shape and its pointed tip. -
