The first all female space mission was made by Russia in 1963. Major general Valentina Tereshkova an engineer and cosmonaut was the first woman in space, having flown a solo mission on Vostok 6 on 16 June 1963. She orbited the Earth 48 times, spent almost three days in space, and at age 88 is still alive and is a political incumbent. She's still the ONLY female cosmonaut or astronaut to fly a solo space mission.
