Minor Blues is a must-know form in Jazz. It is also a form that bridges hardbop and modal improvisation. This lesson is exploring how to improvise on this form. The main part of the lesson is a 7 chorus solo that I improvised and that is included as a transcription. The performance is in a friendly and groovy medium swing tempo and the key is C minor, just like Mr PC.

The Minor Blues Solo

The solo has two main parts, the first 3 choruses are improvised only using the basic arpeggios on the Minor Blues. This is a great way to build a very strong foundation for soloing over the form and really know how the harmony sounds. The second half is more free and demonstrating some different approaches and sounds on especially the tonic chord.

If you could have add a video in the course yt would be great, because by reading it's more difficult to figure out the finger position. But anyway, I'll buy it, even if only to support all the free lessons you share with us here. Thank you.

Mr. Larsen if you ever could come up with a rhythm/metronome exercises I would be eternally grateful & I'd paid what have you(as I have noticed both in books an videos often rhythm does not get much attention much to my dismay)...By rhythm/metronome exercises I mean for example setting the metronome to click on the and's or off beats, or halving the tempo from 120bpm to 60 bpm and hear the clicks on 1 & 3, then vis versa same but now hear on beats 2 & 4, or setting the metronome to 30 bpm so you get only one click per bar and hence have to track the time internally, etc things of these sorts that would help us really lock into the groove/pocket...Much obliged.

Hey Jens, thanks for another great video! I practice everyday for 45 Minutes and include 20 Minutes of warm up (Alternate Picking exercise, Sweeping exercise, Melodic Minor scale training), 8 Minutes of Sightreading practice, and the rest of the time i play jazz standards and try to improvise over them.. But i feel like i am not creative enough for improvising, it allways sounds the same. Should i try to write a fix solo over the standards? Do you think my daily practice is good from a professional point of view? Thanks so much!
