The Anarchy, civil war in England and Normandy part 1.

The Anarchy was a civil war in England and Normandy that started in 1135 and ended in 1153, the main reason for the conflict was that King Henry the 1st of England died without a male heir and his chosen successor his daughter Empress Matilda was unsuccessful in claiming the throne.

Her cousin Stephen of Blois claimed the throne kickstarting the civil war known as the Anarchy.

I’m so curious about what life was like for the every day person during the anarchy, I just started watching Pillars of Earth, I’m not sure how in detail it’ll get for the people living during that time or if it’s mostly a story but doesn’t get too details about the specifics of life

Good video. It should be pointed out, however, that Maud's problems arose from her unpleasant personality, her marriage to an Angevin, and the fact that most of the barons viewed her as a foreigner. She even managed to offend most of her supporters at one time or another, and was only finally able to gain the support of a substantial number of the barons when she arrived with her son in tow and a host of foreign allies and mercenaries. She may have possessed the skills necessary to lead, but based on her general inability to get along or compromise even with those in her own camp, it is evident that she lacked the social skills of other, more successful contemporary leaders.
