How to Crochet Hugs & Kisses Wave Blanket

A brand new granddaughter is arriving soon, so that means a brand new baby blanket in honor of her.  This crochet project features a series of cross stitches and bobbles, or X's & O's, so that is how this became the Hugs & Kisses Baby Blanket.

I used the new Caron Baby Cakes in Dreamy Rose for this, but feel free to substitute regular Caron Cakes or any worsted weight yarn of your choice.

I really like this pattern and am making it a larger size for my 6yo great-granddaughter. I am so glad for Mikey's video because at 74, it's sometimes hard for me to understand patterns even though that's how I learned when I was 17.

A huge thank you to Jeanne and Mikey for this pattern and tutorial. It’s become my go to pattern for baby blankets. I just love the texture. While I’ve done the star, rectangle, and square version, I always come back to this chevron. I love how it hides the color changes in the cake yarns do to the up and down v motion.

Now I’m starting on an enlarged version for my Aunt. I just can’t get enough of the hugs and kisses blankets you guys had. While I didn’t struggle with pattern reading, I came here for some tips. Mikey you did a great job on explaining this to everyone. You made it simple so anyone can follow along and accomplish this beautiful stitch.

I can’t wait to show off my finished blanket in the groups.

In order to know how many chains I needed, I did the sample as you did through the first row of Dc. Then I measured from center valley to center valley. That gave me the width for the 28 stitches. I knew then how many I needed to chain. I do this each time I do a chevron or wave blanket. It sure saves a lot of time!

You are a SUPURB teacher!!! You had me answering your questions out loud, and with just watching your tutorial I feel confident about the repeats, which just doesn’t happen for me!! Just terrific! I’m a new subscriber now!!

Started this beautiful baby blanket. Watched the video, read the instructions and kept having a problem counting stitches. I frogged the blanket 2x. So I was done and something had to change, I used stitch markers in the valley! What a difference a stitch marker can make. Pattern moving along much faster now. Thanks for the advice! Thank you Jeanne Steinhilber for designing this pattern! Thank you Mikey for a great tutorial. Thank you Crochet Crowd also!

Although I'm kind of late to the game, I'd like to add that you can also use safety pins and paperclips as stitch markers. I'm so pleased that I found the perfect pattern. Thanks Crochet Crowd!

This was one of the most fun patterns I've ever worked; with Mikey's tutorial it was easy to make and had multiple stitch rows which added variety and texture. I love this pattern, it was exactly what I needed to lift my mood. I used very bright colors, it will be my Spring "napping" throw. Thank you Mikey, you are a fantastic teacher.

Thank you for this beautiful pattern. I’ve been crocheting for many years and this is the first time I’ve done a ripple afghan and been able to keep the correct shape.

Hi Michael, so beautuful this pattern and so much fun in a varigated yarn. I'm really enjoying myself making it. And, as always, you're instructions are easy to follow, precise and to the point and not too slow or too fast. I've made one change, made the bobbles with 4 instead of 5. Saved yarn and is just as nice. I like your voice, it's pleasant to listen to. Thanks a lot again for your efforts.

This is such a beautiful pattern and I’ve looked for just the right one to make a baby blanket for my first grandchild and I’m so excited to make this for our sweet baby girl. 🥰
