Growing up our house rule was that the tax money went in the center and you got it by landing on free parking. I remember playing with people where literally *_every_* bit of money spent, regardless of why, went to the center. When I found out free parking really did nothing I wasn't surprised to be honest 😅 it's in the name

This is the way my family plays. I was taught by my grandparents that when you land on free parking, you get the money in the middle. I think that it helps keep the game interesting.

I have never played the "money in the middle" before, but my parents would play it like GO when I was little, giving us 100 instead of 200 if you managed to land on it. I remember never liking monopoly as a kid until I was 14 and read the rules. When there was a storm and our power went off, we played it correctly and it entertained us for hours and it was actually nice to play ir correctly for once with the family.

Adding the jackpot rule makes things more interesting, where everyone is constantly waiting to get it. It can be a real life saver. In addition, another rule I usually play by is that when you land directly on start you get 2x money.

Free Parking is just as the name said. It's free to park, you don't need to draw cards, buy or pay something, or get anything.

for everyone confused by this, one of the most common house rules in monopoly is that anytime someone pays a penalty instead of paying it to the bank they pay it to a separate fund, anyone who lands on free parking collects the fund, this rule is so popular that it actually exists in the official monopoly video game, there are also a couple other popular house rules involving free parking, which is what leads to people getting confused about what the space actually does
