This is Chris… and this is his skin cancer story.

Thanks to a suggestion made by a friend while watching cricket and having a beer, Chris went for his first skin cancer check. What he thought was an irritated rash he’d picked up during his typical day as a gardener, was actually stage 2 melanoma.

Chris’ first thoughts weren’t about himself, but about his loved ones, including his two children, his parents, his partner, and how he would miss out on important life moments with them.

Having a regular skin cancer check with a qualified Doctor is the best defence against skin cancer, which kills one Australian every five hours every day. The earlier skin cancer is diagnosed, the best the chances are for treatment.

and wake Los Angeles, CA up to our alarming increase in all forms of skin
cancer. I'm a lucky survivor of 2 BCCs & 1 SCC, with no melanomas to date.
I'm 83 & my 1st BCC was at age 80. Not bad for a retired USN sailor, with
thousands of hours of unprotected sun exposure, on fair skin under red hair.
Well, it used to be red. Freckles & sun burns as a kid & teen. Two saving
graces: I was a bar bum, not a beach bum & I have brown eyes.

It’s very scary, I was putting crème on my leg and on the back felt a bump, I looked at it and thought it was just a blood blister. Left it a few months. Then was reading one day at work and came across an article on melanoma and thought I had better get it checked. Turned out to be stage 3 melanoma. I am so blessed I didn’t wait any longer! I had to have part of my hamstring removed, but I am here. Hope you bought your friend a beer😊

Watching this segment at 1:30 am on a Monday morning & I literally shuddered in bed when Chris stated that "Had he waited 6 months he might not have survived!"

My 71 yr old mother developed a 'wart' on her finger about 2 yrs ago. Seemed like nothing but, she finally went to her Dr in August 2021 to get it checked out and her Dr made an appointment with a dermatologist. Due to Covid-19, that appointment was delayed for 5 months and she was finally seen this past Thursday Jan 6th. A biopsy is being done on the sample which was cut from her (middle) finger and she will have a phone call w/the results on February 17th.

I pray that her growth is benign but, if it isn't, I will ALWAYS be haunted that she should've had this dealt with FIVE months ago!

I find some comfort that for her entire life, my mother never liked the sun. She never sunbathed, rarely worked in the garden, NEVER wore a bathing suit. Her anti-sun habits bring me some confidence but, I also worry that it is on her finger - hands are always exposed to the sun. I plan to be home with her at 2:30 pm on February 17th when she gets the results back and I will write an update here. I pray that she is as fortunate as Chris and am happy that all worked out well for him. Cancer is such a plague on humanity but, stories like this show that it isn't always a death sentence.
