Paul Trynka, el autor de la biografía de David Bowie, Starman, afirma la canción fue inspirada por el enamoramiento de Iggy Pop con Kuelan Nguyen, una bella mujer vietnamita.

El el Reino Unido el lanzamiento de la nueva versión de Bowie alcanzó el número 2 durante una semana, el 14 de junio de 1983, detrás de "Every Breath You Take", de The Police, mientras que el estreno en Estados Unidos alcanzó el número 10.

This Long Play version is great. David Bowie was a supremely talented musician. He gave Stevie Ray Vaughn the life time chance to be featured as the lead guitarist from Texas, USA, on this recording. It propelled him to the top as a gifted blues guitarist, even to the point when Eric Clapton pulled his car over and stopped to call the radio station to ask “ Who was that guy?”. I, too, miss the both of them. Im a Texas born blues guitar player too, and can say SRV plays his heart out. If you listen well, you can Feel the intensity, pain, and emotion in his playing. He was the Real Deal. Not like the fakes and wannabees.
