Italian Ariete at Tank Challenge

The Italian platoon conducts tank operations during day two of the #StrongEurope #TankChallenge at Grafenwoehr Training Area, May 11, 2016. The SETC is co-hosted by U.S. Army Europe and the German Bundeswehr, May 10-13, 2016. The competition is designed to foster military partnership while promoting NATO interoperability. Seven platoons from six NATO nations are competing in SETC - the first multinational tank challenge at Grafenwoehr in 25 years.

C1 Ariete is on the same level of Leopard 2A4. It needs to be upgraded, but it's still a good tank for NATO standards.I can't explain why they hit only twice in this video. Excluding the shot at 0:50, the remaining were good hit (near the targets, or directly hit).

It is old for modern war. It has to be upgraded to mark 2 with a new powerful 12V common rail diesel engine, new electro optical devices, new computer, new infra red, new larger tracks, new comunication system, modified turret with remoted hit role. 125 tanks Ariete (Ram) will be upgraded of 200. The others 75 will be decommissioned. New anti tank missiles of 5th generation with 2 tandem HEATs are very dangerous for MBTs. Israel is testing a new radar guided missile to destroy anti tank missile before the hit, and Rheinemetall is testing a new 130 mm gun for nato MBTs.

The C1 Ariete needs improvement, but I think they preferred to invest a few resources on the Centauro.

Ariete always reminds me of a cross between a leo 2 and a Chally 1.

I messed around with steel beasts pro a while back, a simulator that is actually used as a training tool by many armies, and I found the B1 Centauro to have a comparably poor FCS, it wasn't as fluent to use as the others, though I don't know if it's similar to the one in the C1.

They miss so much yet they placed 4th in front of 2 American teams with M1A2 Abrams tanks in that competition that we see here.

Yeah .. We (Italian team) had some misses ... correct ... but the C1 Ariete is a beautiful piece of mechanical engineering ... maybe it needs a better fire control system ...

Something about its turret looks really cool to me if they uparmored its hull and turret gave it some blowout panels and a rws it might be a decent tank

The Italian tank is slightly worse then a Leo 2 A4. They have about the same fire control system that was the best in the world in the late 90s but not now, the Leo 1 A5 also got this upgrade too and same system. Its lightly then the Leo 2 with a little less armour closer to 50 tonne , and the speed electronics and everything else are all similiar to the Leo 2 A4. So really its just a Leo 2 A4 with a bit less armour but still a lot more armour then a Leo 1 . italy made 200 after the Cold war finished its not enough to keep upgrades they would be better of getting the Leo 2 or Leo 3 next and giving all these to Ukraine
