Will the Sun Ever Set on the British Empire?
The UK, despite being an island smaller than Wyoming, used to command the globe and not even that long ago. In 1913, the British Empire governed over 400 million people, 23% of the world population at the time, and by 1920, it covered a quarter of the Earth's total land area. But over time more and more colonies would gain independence.

So with the Empire losing nearly all of its members, surely the sun must have finally set on the British Empire? Well, actually it hasn’t, and it may never. And it's all thanks to the small Pitcairn Islands in the South Pacific.

But Britain's luck won't last forever. Sometime in the next few millennia, an eclipse will come for the island, and the Sun will finally, even if only momentarily, set on the British empire...unless they manage to set up a space colony first.

Love your analysis of the Sun never setting over the British Empire. If you expand the analysis to include Commonwealth Realms (Countries with QE2 as Head of State) it the sun never sets of the Queen's realms and territories, because you would include, Canada, Australia NZ, large parts of the Caribbean & most of the Anglophone Pacific.

I like what the Indian doctor/politician said, not sure if it was his original quote but he said something to the effect of: "Someone once exclaimed that the sun never sets on the British Empire... that may have been the case because even God couldn't trust what the British will do in the dark". Despite your 'beliefs', that was one pithy remark with too much truth behind it.
