Paul was DEFINITELY a BETTER RIVAL than Gary. Paul actually made Ash think and come up with strategy and actually have character development along with the his "years" of experience from the other leagues

Paul is definitely the best. The character growth of Ash and Paul wrre insane + the infernape storyline. Gary is still no 2 for me.

dude no way you put gary over paul! I get it Gary was his long time rival and the original rival but the relationship ash had with Paul was a lot more tense and having chimchar being in the mix just put more fuel to the fire, i also think that the battles demonstrated how much they hated each other.

Me personally, Gary 2 and Paul 1 but that's just me👍🏼

Sawyer was my favorite rival for the simple fact that he admired ash to the point he went from a novice trainer to actually surpassing XY Ash and caused a redemption arc for Ash. Their Kalos League battle is probably my favorite animated battle in all of Pokemon

I think Leon was technically Ash’s main rival in Journey’s.

Paul made me question Ash way of fighting because he gave us results. Honestly I think Paul was more impactful than Gary could ever be.

I would personally choose Paul as Ash’s best rival. Alain being second. Ash and Paul had massive character development especially involving raising chimchar

Paul is hands down the most iconic and best rival. That last battle with infernape and electivire was electrifying. Gary is a close second though

I would've ranked Paul higher than Garry. I know Garry is the OG and was a jerk too but I think Paul's persona is of a perfect rival.

Even I have to admit the battle with Ash and both Paul and Alain was quiet sick

I would switch Gary and Paul just cause Paul felt more like a fr obstacle and someone who showed ash there is more than one way to make Pokémon strong and almost all his Pokémon agree with his training methods he has a bond with his Pokémon different from ash but with almost the same strength
