This is The First Image of An Atom!

Atom is the smallest unit of matter. Atoms are so small that their size is roughly 100 picometers which is 10 millionth of a millimeter. Last year in 2018 David Nadlinger decided to picture atom. He took the Strontium Atom which is an Alkaline Earth metal and placed it between 2 rods.

These rods has an electric field so that the atom floats between them. Then he blasted high-powered laser on it which energizes the Strontium electrons and makes them glow brighter. Glowing electrons can be seen easily this is the actual image.

Okay, so we’re not seeing an atom, we’re seeing the energized electrons from the atom.

That’s like seeing the matter around a black hole. We can’t see the black hole but we know it’s there from the energized particles that surround it, giving it shape.

Is that about right? I’m pretty ignorant to this stuff so it’s fascinating to learn about what I’m actually seeing.

How can someone"take and place" an atom??

There's no words to describe how BIG this is to be an atom

You had it a bit wrong there! This is a fit because he did it with a camera and an extention tube (simple equipment)! Also strontium atoms are a bit large as atoms go XD (with an atomic number of 38). He also did it with laaarge exposure cause the flashing is so quick that the naked eye can't see it!
And lastly but most important of all:
Electrons do not glow!!!
Electrons get exited, in that case they absorb the photon's energy and and jump to the next rotational state, and they do that for a very small period of time.. When they get back to their original place they emit the equivalent of the energy that they absorbed as a photon.. And THAT photon was the image that David Nadlinger managed to capture with his lens!
Sorry for any errors, my English are a bit mediocre

Thats not the actual size of an atom, its the glow that he actually captured.

He took the Strontium atom and placed it... How in the hell he managed to take and move a single atom without even seeing it in the first place!? 😅 Please, be more descriptive next time.

Isn't there a short clip "Boy and his atom" that literally is made with atoms in stop motion?

While struggling to see an atom, the man "took and placed" the stuff in place.😅
