In this animated feature, a deadly diphtheria epidemic strikes the remote town of Nome, Alaska. With the life-saving medicine located hundreds of miles away, the residents decide to send out a sled-dog team. Balto (Kevin Bacon) -- a half-wolf dog ignored by all except a goose, Boris (Bob Hoskins), two polar bears -- and beautiful Jenna (Bridget Fonda) is chosen to run but is disqualified by lead dog Steele (Jim Cummings). When the other dogs get lost in the snow, Balto risks his life to rescue them and deliver the medicine. #BALTO

I love the way Star puts the reins on Balto and accepts him as the leader of the team. It shows that Star didn’t really hate Balto and was the only dog to really question Steele!

" look at his eyes" " look at his eyes " never fails to make me laugh I don't know why

Steel-Looks like a dog but acts like a wolf.
Balto-Looks like a wolf but acts like a dog.

This shows how much a wolf can handle. I know Balto is only part wolf but he inherited that physical strength. Steele being only dog cannot understand how balto can survive a blow to the head like that. Moral here: never underestimate your opponents. Especially when they’re stronger than you

I love Balto, I used to watch this movie every day when I was very little.

I like this scene. The way Steele began to unravel and lose it with the other dogs slowly becoming more and more uncomfortable is pretty cool.

Choosing not to fight and insisting on not taking on a fight against Steele shows just how much strength he possesses. What I've always loved about Balto is how much heart he puts into his moral code. Even though he never truly belonged in Nome and was met by almost nothing but struggle, he is able to put everything into perspective unlike Steele, who doesn't care about the children at all

And the guy who voiced Steele, voices Winnie the Pooh (mind blown)

Notice how after Steel slammed Balto into the rocks not one dog was cheering Steel on but looked shocked and worried. Even Star knew Balto wanted to help

Balto honestly could've said to steel "So you would much rather return to Nome when all thoses kids are dead and have your sleder, the team disbanded and there will be nobody else to blame but you."

1:11 - interesting fact: at first Nikki and Kaltag were viciously discussing
Steele's brutal pushing Balto away from crate but when he grabed Balto with teeth on neck and tossed him away they both suddenly realised that Steele had gone too far

Though his fate is left unknown in the movie, there was a storyboarded scene featuring Steele's death. After Balto delivers the serum and Steele's old posse turn on him, Steele confronts him near a mining dredge and jumps to attack him. After he misses, Steele's collar gets caught on a lever and a trap door opens, resulting in him getting hanged to death.

Steele probably would’ve accepted Balto’s help if power and greed didn’t take over him

2:05 the way Balto looks down as Steele falls shows that he was considering going down to help him

But it also amazes me how much Balto can take, and how he isn't trying to fight this time.
Even both before and after he was thrown into a rock back and head first.

I like how Nikki and Kaltag went from enjoying the show to being horrified.

Steele is just an arrogant Malamute while Balto really has the heart of a husky and a wolf: his physical strength and his desire to survive and try to help

Haven't thought about this movie for almost 29 years on vhs but it is almost 30 years since it released in theaters. Powerful film by Spielberg's company Amblin and Universal.
