I am Der Geher and today I'm going kayaking. From a kayak station at the Hans-Henny-Jahnn-Weg we go into the Mühlenkampkanal behind the stores of the Mühlenkamp. To the left through the Goldbekkanal follows the very worth seeing Rondeelteich. Passing under the Fernsichtbrücke bridge, the route then reaches the Außenalster with a view of the city center in the distance. Through the Lange Zug it goes back to the starting point.

The Alstersee was created as early as 1190 by damming it up to operate a grain mill. In 1616 the lake was then separated by the ramparts into the outer and inner Alster. The outer Alster is 164 ha large and up to 4.5 m deep. Besides the Alster itself, Osterbek and Wandse are also tributaries from the east. Around the lake are many parks and some of the most desirable residential areas in Hamburg. A lot of water sports take place on the lake, especially on sunny weekends.

I love the Hamburg canals. It is such a different perspective of the city. Hamburg is so lucky to have all these different areas: lots of parks, waterways, diverse areas with interesting architecture...
