Best Atari Game Hacks

The Atari 2600 has a thriving community of programmers who have made some wonderful enhancements to many popular 2600 games. While many of the original releases were loved by millions of people, since then there have been many hacks to game releases to change them into even better games. In this video, I showcase some of my favorite hacks for this system.

I recently came across hacked versions of Space Invaders (looks just like the arcade version) and also E.T. (which gets rid of some of the glitches of the game and livens the colors on-screen).

Love your channel, many people dont know about Zippy the porcupine for atari 2600 (Sonic the hedgehog), Princess Rescue (Super Mario for atari 2600) or Halo for atari 2600.You can talk and show people these rare games.Good job.

It's amazing what fan programmers can do! My hat's off to them. I'm doing good to make my own maps in PC games like Disciples II. I've not the patience to actually write code. Dark Chambers and Pitfall II really blow me away for the 2600. I've got to find the Gauntlet game for this though. I love that game.

Many thanks for the very professional and informative video clips. Your enthusiasm is great! I worked selling video game and home computers back in the stone age, and always felt Atari didn't get the recognition that it deserved - mostly self induced - after it was sold to Warner Bros. That should be a warning to all technology companies, if you replace enthusiasm with grey suits, stagnation will follow.

Hey John! Great video! I think that the SwordQuest series could be a good game to make better (items, colors, etc). I think these are good games but it will be great to see something upgraded. Also a hack (if it's not exists) of the game Tennis would be cool...more "realistic", with a correct use of the raquet and the joystick trigger. Greetings from Argentina Immortal!

I've always enjoyed Atari 2600 hacks as well! There are some interesting hacks of Adventure too. I enjoyed the Fast Food graphical hack "Fat Albert" when it came out.
