I’m also a nurse. Who on earth thought this was ok?!! 4 point leather restraints are not safe. She is not positioned correctly and can have permanent injuries from this! They’ve done nothing to protect her privacy either. I hope she has a good lawyer.

As a medical professional, I can say this is an injury waiting to happen! Her arms are overextended, which could lead to severe brachial plexus nerve damage! It is outrageous to see this girl like this. I had several cases in the operating theater fixing those types of nerve damages. This is abuse as it is. These employees should have held accountable for torturing this girl!

This is horrifying in so many ways, the worst being this is what was actually *recorded*. I shudder to think what her treatment has been at other times. "Does it need to be looser"? Are you serious? Her hands were visibly red immediately and quickly bordering on purple. You don't have to be a medical professional or win "Most Empathetic" to see that. I'm sure the argument is it's to "keep her from hurting herself, " but clearly that didn't work, did it. Besides that, she's forced into an extremely uncomfortable and vulnerable position for ANY human being, let alone someone with metal illness, MULTIPLE times expressed that she was cold (nice that everyone else is fully dressed while she is in thin underwear), she's clearly dramatically distraught, and you're surprised or aggrieved that she lashed out by...spitting? As a person who has dealt with paranoid schizophrenia and Alzheimers in my immediate family, I just cannot fathom how ANYONE expected this situation to go well. A year later you're going to still have assault charges against her for the spitting? Unbelievable. And if anyone talks about those "poor guards" and what they have to go through, that's not Valentina's fault. It's the fault of the system that has so completely and deliberately failed her. Drop these insane charges now. Even if there is "no money" for health services, they actively made her life and mental stability worse by subjecting her to this, and continue wasting tax dollars (if that's what you care about) by dragging out her case.

I'm a former corrections officer and this makes me absolutely sick. I would NOT be ok with this ever. Y'all are why corrections gets a bad name. Shame on you for going a long with this.
