Programming a New Key For A 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco, Possibly All New Chevys Too!

Because all the new cars these days have an over complicated key, they must be programmed. This short video will show how to program the buttons for the new key on a 2012 Chevy Cruze Eco with 6 speed manual transmission. This may be the same procedure on all GM and Chevy vehicles with a key start, Unfortunately not the push button start. Push start with the RFID? key is a little more in depth and should be noted in the "book never read" i.e the manual that comes with every car. It will save you time and money. I try to do as little as possible with the dealership so this should help you in that endeavor.

Worked perfectly for our 2014 Cruze as well, Auto start and everything.
note: We didn't have to start the car each time - just turned the key to the 'on' position and waited for 5 seconds with each key. Thank you!!

Thank you very much. The dealership wanted to charge me 15 minutes of labor for something you taught me to do in 20 seconds. I'm glad I saw your video before I agreed to let them do it! Thanks again!

This might be from 8 years ago but I was today years old when I needed to learn how to do this in 2022 after my key blade broke off. Refuse to spend $180-$275 for a new one. I researched how to do this all on my own, got the key off Amazon, got it cut at Ace Hardware, and programmed it perfectly within seconds thanks to finding this video after a few hours of looking and seeing some very strange and complicated methods. This was the easiest and fastest and it worked first try! Thanks again!

So I want to say THANK YOU!!!! My son broke the blade off of my FOB. I was told it would cost several hundred dollars to get a new one. Anyways I ordered a new one online for $22 and paid $15 at the dealership to have it cut. Then I read the manual on how to program it. It said to insert it into a spot in the console under a piece of plastic. I asked at the dealership how to get the plastic off. They said I needed a "special tool" and I shouldn't even try to program it myself because it is way to complicated. They said let them program it for $79.00 plus taxes. I told them I am a single mom raising four kids on $500 a month. I explained I didn't have that. They said it was the only way. I went home and got the piece off with a flat head screw driver. It snapped right out. Then I looked and there is no slot, just a big hole. So then I went online and found your video. It worked like a charm in less than 60 seconds, it was programmed for free. So again, THANK YOU!!!!

This worked for my 2012 Chevy Cruze Eco with remote start. I bought a blank key fob on Amazon and had it cut by a locksmith. It took less than 30 seconds for me to program it.

Advice from a locksmith in 2023 cautioned me that you should NOT start the car, just turn it on. Here's what worked on my 2012 Cruze.

(1) I ordered a fob with a blank key from Amazon. (2) The locksmith cut a test key to use before cutting the blank key on the fob. This was to make sure his sidewinder cut was going to work. (3) We tested the test key by starting the car. It worked. (4) The locksmith cut the blank key on the new fob. (4) We went back to the car. (5) With the old key, I turned the car to "on" -- NOT to start. The locksmith said that going to start could end me up with neither key being able to start the car. (6) I pulled out the old key and immediately put the new key in and turned it to "on" -- NOT to start. (7) I pulled and released the driver side door handle 3 times in rapid succession. (7) I turned the ignition back to off position and pulled the new key out (it was attached of course to the new key fob). (8) Then I tested the new key fob remote controls and confirmed they all worked fine. (9) Done.

I'm not saying the method in this video would not work, but the locksmith said that sometimes actually starting the car would screw up the programming of the keys (both the old one and the new one) so that the car might not start at all.

My key broke in the ignition I got it out but now cant drive because it wont connect back to the fob. I bought a new fob from walmart for $20 then realized it doesnt have a chip in it. If I have the key cut will it work or be able to be programmed? I assume without a chip in it I wouldnt be able to program it this way. I was on my way back home from fixing my car for a check engine light. My luck lol
