What is DPI & How does it work on a Mouse?

When I was looking at getting a new more capable mouse there was a lot of talk about "DPI". I had no idea what it really meant until I got this mouse, and was able to test it out for myself. After doing this test for myself it all made sense to me! Hopefully it all makes sense to you too now.

My Dots Per Inch settings are 800, 1500, and 3000. I first started using 3k, but my friends said that was crazy. So now I use 1500, and practicing 800.
Playing FPS mainly.
