A $25 SDR searches for signals much faster than a traditional scanner like the Uniden BCT15X!

Thanks for watching the Frugal Radio (FR) channel!

I have recently bought an RTL-SDR v3, its connected into a raspberry pi4. Thats taking 121 seconds to the scan Mil air as per your demo :( . I guess i need to connect it upto my windows desktop to compare if the hardware its attached to is causing the delay. Also it seems to miss known transmissions, are there some further setting changes i need to look into so that it stops when it picks something up? I've made adjustments to squelch without success.

How did you get the green SNR meter at the top to show up?

Hi all, I'm about to order the SDR dongle and am really interested in getting the frequency scanner plugin. The suggested site for the download seems to be down. I'm wondering if this is temporary or is there an alternate site for the download. Thanks

Hi! Could you, please, help me cancel all locked out frequencies (I mean to how to unlock frequencies that have been locked out) on the newer version of this scanner plug-in. I don't know how to do it. Many thanks in advance for your insight.

Does that scanner plug-in capture received audio from found frequencies and store them for later review? So you can see what you missed if away from computer etc?

I have an RTL-SDR v3, I find that it is not as sensitive as my Pro 2006 for listening to Mil Air frequencies. My Pro 2006 will be active and my v3 will be happily scanning away but not stopping on anything that the Pro 2006 stops on. Also I have heard so many people talk about how fast it can scan 225-380 Mhz band but at what cost. I find the faster scan can bypass active frequencies. Now if you live near an airport where there is military activity then the v3 would probably be a great piece of equipment to have, for me the Pro 2006 is required to hear anything.

I was big into scanning many years ago before SDR. I am now picking the hobby back up again. I have recently bought a Bearcat 125xlt but would like to get into SDR ( still have my old Yupiteru MT7100), so I have a RTL-SDR v3 in the post. I have been learning a great deal from your videos and was wondering which software would be best to use. I am interested in airband as I live 15 miles from Cardiff but would also like to decode DMR etc. Many thanks for your great tutorials.

Do the regular antennas work for this? The ones that come with the rtl sdr kit. Thank you

I thought Over and Out was bad VP. You use one or the other but not both.

If you are comfortable in both which would you use Linux or Win10?

Do you have any recommended URLs for information on DIY Antenna building? Its sort of like sipping from a fire hose. ;-)

Can Airspy be configured with a search path?

We get jacked up on mil coms if you use "over and out" lmao. It's either over or out, not both

Only problem is they have all moved to SATCOM so I guess 🤷 just enjoy the static like everything else.
